Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Executive Director for Equity in Access provides oversight and leadership of the following areas within the Division of Student Affairs: College Access & First Year Transition (and its multiple functions), Upward Bound, State Gear Up, Ogden Gear Up, Basic Needs Network & Money Management Center, Veterans Upward Bound, and Veterans Services.

These areas directly support institutional core themes of access, learning, and community through pre-college outreach programs, transition support, community partnerships, university-wide programming, leadership development, and retention efforts such as navigation support, mentoring, and advising. The executive director is responsible for providing strategic leadership to the university's efforts to create a more inclusive and welcoming co-curricular environment for all students with particular emphasis on historically underrepresented populations. Collaboration and coordination with the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Division, and Enrollment Management (particularly the Office of Admissions) is a critical aspect of the role, as is supporting the WSU strategic plan overall, and especially increasing equitable access to higher education and achieving the goal of becoming an emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution.

Required Qualifications:
Education - Master’s degree in Higher Education Leadership, Student Affairs, Gender/Ethnic Studies, Social Work, Psychology, or other related field.
Experience - Five years professional experience with equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), social justice, educational opportunity organizations and programs, and/or higher education admissions functions, which must include:

  • Three years working in a higher-education environment.
  • Three years of supervisory experience of professional staff.
  • Two years departmental management, including budget oversight.
  • Experience working with students who are first-generation to college, from socio-economically disadvantaged background, and/or other populations traditionally underrepresented in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctorate in higher education administration/student affairs or related field
  • Leadership and management of student affairs-related programs/services, including building and sustaining strong teams to actualize a vision
  • Five or more years of collaborative work building innovative programs and services to meet student needs, which includes a range of issues like diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Three years supervisory experience of professional staff
  • Experience with ongoing assessment, program evaluation, ongoing reviewing of data to use in strategic planning
  • Strong communication skills including public speaking (presentations, speeches, group facilitation), effective use of technology, ability to write well
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to collaborate with varied campus and community partners
  • Experience writing and/or administering, federal grant program
  • Understanding of student development and the role of student affairs in the educational process.

The annual salary for this position starts at $95,000 and may go up from there depending on candidate qualifications. The position comes with a generous benefits package.
