The Assistant VP serves as an extension of the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Services (AVP EMSS) and represent Enrollment Management and Student Services with University partners and stakeholders. They consult with the AVP EMSS on strategic planning, decision making, and pave the way for innovated student services. The role is responsible and ensuring the assigned departments are timely in both reaching the graduation initiative goals that are set by the CSU Chancellor's Office and Sacramento State, and in reporting to the university community on the progress toward such goals.

When reporting managers are unavailable, the incumbent acts on their behalf to provide guidance, direction and decision-making authority for the departments and programs they manage.
