The Office of Information Technology is seeking a Content Production Supervisor who will report to the Multimedia Services Manager, the Content Production Supervisor will plan, coordinate, and oversee the production of audio content and some related video content for the Bloomberg School of Public Health communications initiatives. The Content Production Supervisor also coordinates with online learning services to provide support for live, virtual class discussion activities.

The Content Production Supervisor serves as a liaison between the Content Production Multimedia team, other areas within the University, and external contacts. This position is expected to be highly proactive, demonstrate the ability to work independently, and maximize workflow efficiency to meet deadlines. Must be capable of developing and motivating team members to achieve goals and grow relationships with partners.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Content Production, Live Event, Learning Support & Supervision (75%)

  • Supervise and work with a team of technicians to produce (record, edit, broadcast, and distribute) primarily audio and related video content.
  • Recruit, screen, hire, train, schedule, and oversee assignment of work to staff.
  • Manage team workflow to meet agreed upon deadlines, balancing production requirements against live support needs.
  • Direct staff in the set up and operation of multimedia technical systems to support live audio events, pre-recorded content broadcasts, and online learning support.
  • Consult with Communications Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) (content producers and department administrators) to understand the requirements and goals of communications content.
  • Utilizing creative and technical knowledge, work with SMEs in the development of content such as studio, field, lecture hall, conference room recordings, videos, podcasts, and other emerging communications mechanisms.
  • Collaborate with SMEs on enhancements to improve the quality of projects.
  • Provide leadership to ensure a consistent, client-focused team effort is applied to operations.
  • Develop and document support processes, training staff in the execution of those processes.
  • Develop performance goals and provide on-going coaching to meet those goals.
  • Evaluate staff and provide feedback, counseling, or discipline as needed.
  • Identify training needs to ensure effective and efficient use of technology (multimedia services, hardware, and software) for all provided services.
  • Oversee help desk ticketing request processes.
  • Assign tasks to ensure balanced workload assignments, efficient workflow, and accurate billing for services.
  • Regularly review requests to ensure resources are available to meet demand and that service options address client needs.
  • Monitor tickets for regular, detailed work updates.
  • Prepare and analyze team metrics, prepare annual performance reports.
  • Review and update web portal content to reflect related service offerings and request processes.
  • Draw on creative and technical experience to guide talent in best practices for effective audio/visual presentations.
  • Provide consultative services to faculty, staff, and students in the use of supporting multimedia technology to provide the best content presentation experience.
  • Oversee the inventory and archiving of all project content production related work: scripts, shoots, recordings, edits, presentations, creative elements, and final work product.

Operational Support (25%)

  • Provide multimedia technology support, e.g., audio/visual, digital media, web cast, broadcast, virtual conferencing, and other special live events, as necessary.
  • Collaborate with technical experts and team members on the design, set up, integration, and maintenance of audio recording studio facilities and field recording equipment.
  • Participate in research and planning for improvements to multimedia infrastructure.
  • Provide recommendations for upgrade or replacement of multimedia systems.
  • Analyze team needs and evaluate new equipment.
  • Conduct product testing and recommend purchases based on industry research and reviews, combined with product piloting results.
  • Collaborate with vendors and team members to assist with the introduction and installation of new systems and technology.
  • Document processes for system usage and answer questions regarding their proper use.
  • Stay current on latest products and technologies by reading trade publications, attending seminars, and developing and maintaining vendor contacts.
  • May assist with special events and projects, providing audio/visual and multimedia expertise, and performing other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • Three years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency.*

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some Supervisory/Lead experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with working with vendors and contactors.
  • Familiarity with project management practices.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Script writing experience.
  • Ability to develop and implement original ideas and correctly identify and effectively solve problems.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritize workload.
  • Proven ability to multi-task and process data quickly with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to develop and motivate teams.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

  • Thorough knowledge of online course development process.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • Adobe Creative Suite or comparable industry standard audio and video editing software.
  • Audio noise reduction software.
  • Microphones (condenser and dynamic microphones for broadcast quality single voiceover recordings and group podcast recordings).
  • Cameras (broadcast studio cameras for broadcast productions and professional camcorders/DSLR).
  • Standard office computer equipment [Macintosh and PC].
  • Standard office software: Microsoft Office Professional, FTP programs, internet browsers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to bend, push, lift and assemble equipment of approximately 50 lbs.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Two Multimedia Technicians.

Starting Salary Range: $51,210 - $70,480 annually (commensurate with experience)
