Description

The University of Washington (UW) Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery is accepting applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Virginia Merrill Bloedel Hearing Research Center (VMBHRC). The anticipated start date of this position is February 2023. We welcome applications from candidates studying any aspect of auditory or vestibular biology that will complement existing research strengths in our center. Fields of interest include neuroscience, developmental biology, stem cell biology, genetics and genomics. Successful applicants are expected to build and maintain an original, independent, extramurally-funded research program; to participate in graduate education and postdoctoral training; and to promote diversity and equity in their research, training, and service activities. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  

Located on the main UW campus, the VMBHRC is one of the nation’s leading sites for research and education related to hearing, hearing loss, balance, disequilibrium, and related communication disorders. Interactions among its ten on-site faculty provide a rich collaborative environment. The Center is connected through Bloedel Affiliate faculty to seventeen academic departments across the UW. The vibrant local research community also includes the UW Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, the Allen Institutes (for Brain Science, Cell Science, Immunology, and Artificial Intelligence), Seattle Children's Research Institute and a wide variety of other private and public research organizations.

Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a doctorate (PhD, MD, DO, or MD/PhD), or foreign equivalent, in biomedical sciences or a related field.
