The Job

The Assistant Director of Data Analytics and Strategy is a critical member of the Annual Giving Data and Analytics team who provides high-level analysis and reporting to track, asses and guide direct response fundraising strategy. The assistant direct also supports the development of policies and procedures to ensure Annual Giving's reporting and analytics needs are fully met and effectively prioritized. The successful candidate will report to the director of Data Analytics and Strategy and work closely with all members of the Annual Giving team and key colleagues in the Office of Advancement.

More specifically, the Assistant Director will:
  • Provide support in the development and improvement of systems, processes, reports, dashboards, and data visualization tools that will help the Annual Giving team effectively measure performance, make data driven business decisions, and accurately forecast growth. This includes a focus on data analysis, reporting, and setting and tracking on goals for the Athletics Annual Giving team.
  • Proactively identify and recommend programmatic adjustments based on data and informed by previously established program goals.
  • Provide assistance in the maintenance of data integrity and reporting standards and accuracy across Advancement.
  • Stay abreast of best practices in data analysis in direct response fundraising, and continually learn new trends in business analytics (in higher education as well as non-profit and for-profit sectors).
  • Work with all members of the Annual Giving team, Advancement, and other colleagues across the university, to ensure all relevant stakeholders have the data and insights they need.
  • Analyze and interpret the data to identify issues with data integrity and recommend appropriate methods of resolution.
  • Have a strong understanding of data mining and predictive modeling tools and a track record of creative problem solving.
  • Be committed to the mission of the Office of Advancement and its dedicated work to build and maintain relationships integral to the success and future of the University.


The Team

The Annual Giving team, within the Office of Advancement, drives donor acquisition and retention for Georgetown University through traditional and innovative annual giving strategies, in-depth analysis, and strong internal partnerships. The team is comprised of three functional areas: data and analytics, marketing operations, and school and unit partnerships. The data and analytics team provides regular reporting and program assessment and conducts in-depth analysis that drives business decisions. The marketing operations team is comprised of functional experts who develop strategies for and implement marketing across print, digital, social, and phone mediums. The school and unit teams work with academic and development colleagues to develop annual giving marketing strategies for their respective school(s) and/or unit(s).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 to 2 years of work experience performing complex analysis - preferably in a development/fundraising environment

  • Proficiency working with complex metrics and analysis and the ability to interpret and present complex data to various audiences in a manner that makes the findings clear, accessible, and actionable
  • Highly organized and able to work independently or within a team setting
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects to coordinate multiple requests and competing deadlines
  • Proven analytical skills emphasizing the ability to gather, clean, evaluate and synthesize data
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt and present information in a variety of formats
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft applications -particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Proficient use of at least one statistical software package - such as Stata, SPSS, Minitab, SAS/JMP, R
  • Experience with forecasting and modeling
  • Experience working with large database/CRM systems - including advanced understanding of data architecture and relational databases
  • Desire to continually evolve knowledge and skills, along with rapidly advancing trends in the field of data science
  • Familiarity of traditional research techniques - including text and periodical based research, utilizing databases, and the use of other industry resources
  • Sensitive, personable and experienced in customer relations skills
  • Experience working with annual giving or development


Work Mode: Hybrid (2 days on campus, 3 days telework). Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
