The University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Spring 2023 (9-month appointment). Successful candidates will have demonstration of excellence in university teaching at the undergraduate level. We are seeking a broadly trained ecologist to teach a variety of biology courses (e.g. ecology, biometrics, biogeography, vertebrate zoology, animal behavior, marine biology, environmental science, and environmental laws in both lecture and lab settings. Special consideration will be given to candidates able to develop and teach quantitative ecological courses (as needed, depending on candidate’s background and qualifications); mentor and advise students; promote undergraduate research; and engage in scholarship and professional service.

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate a purposeful commitment to teaching, fostering student success through effective faculty advising, actively engaging in the publication and presentation of scholarly research, and participating in appropriate university and department service. Opportunities exist for (optional) appointments in the Maynor Honor’s College and in the Graduate School to support the Science Education Program. Strong preference will be given to candidates with potential for both independent and student-mentored research, although teaching remains the primary responsibility.
