The Regenerative Engineering Laboratory in Columbia University Irving Medical Center invites candidates to apply for open positions as Postdoctoral Research Scientist or Associate Research Scientist in NIH-funded research projects for in situ regeneration of knee meniscus, tendons, and temporomandibular joint discs by endogenous stem/progenitor cells.

The Regenerative Engineering Laboratory, directed by Dr. Chang H. Lee, is part of the Center for Dental and Craniofacial Research (CDCR) in the College of Dental Medicine. CDCR contains over 4,000 square feet of space, including state-of-the-art research facilities, and serves as an inter-campus hub for interdisciplinary collaboration. The Lee Lab has a long-lasting, active collaboration with the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Department of Biomedical Engineering. The candidate will have opportunities to participate in varied large-scale collaborative projects for the regeneration of musculoskeletal and craniofacial tissues.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Material Science, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or related fields and a minimum of 3–4 years of relevant research experience and a good publication record. Requires excellent organization, time management, and multitasking skills, plus the initiative and ability to plan, carry out, and troubleshoot complex studies with minimal supervision. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English along with attention to detail and the ability to interact effectively with other Postdoctoral Scientists, Fellows, and graduate and undergraduate students in a fast-paced environment is required.

Ideal candidates will have experience with tissue/organ-on-chip, microfluidic systems, immunology, and/or stem cell biology associated with regenerative medicine. Strong candidates with other fields related to tissue engineering and regenerative medicine are also encouraged to apply. The candidate’s expertise should be documented in peer-reviewed research articles.
