Mission or Goal of Unit: Advance the patient care, Research, and Education Missions of the academic medical center through providing care in a rural community.

Chief Purpose of this position: The chief purpose of this position is to support our patient care mission

Position Responsibilities:

Teaching – Teaches and evaluates medical students, residents, and fellows when applicable

Research - Keeps up to date on the clinical trial menu offered through the Massey Cancer Center and educates patients on their options for treatment on clinical trials.

Clinical - Time and effort shall be devoted to the provision of clinical services. Primary outpatient clinical responsibilities will include attending 10 half-day clinics (4 hours each) per week at Tappahannock Hospital and Community Memorial Hospital with a focus on general hematology and oncology. Additional duties include remote on-call services on a 24 hour per day basis.

Required Qualifications:
  • Board Certified or Eligible in Medical Oncology and eligible for Virginia licensure
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Seasoned cancer specialist who preferably possesses national and/or international recognition in the clinical disciplines of cancer.
