The VCUarts Department of Art History at Virginia Commonwealth University is seeking applications from qualified applicants to teach ARTH 302: Introduction to Museums in Fall 2022. The Department of Art History is engaged in establishing an interdisciplinary, global approach to the visual arts. Its faculty and students recognize the need to study the permeability of geographic, temporal and theoretical boundaries and to produce historically and culturally grounded interpretations of works of art and visual culture. There is a possibility of teaching ARTH 302 again in Spring 2023

ARTH 302. Introduction to Museums. 3 Hours.
Semester course; 3 lecture hours. 3 credits. A survey of contemporary theories, issues and practices in the museum environment. Topics include museum identity and function, administration, museum ethics, collections maintenance and management, curatorial and exhibition issues, and education and public interaction.
Meeting time: Tuesday/Thursday, 11:00am–12:15pm
Location: This course meets off-campus at various museum locations in Richmond, VA
Modality: Hybrid-Flexible-Synchronous (A minimum of 30% of the course time is completed by the instructor and student physically sharing the same physical space/location at the same time. The remainder of the course time is completed in an online/remote.)

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Master's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous teaching experience at the college level or professional museum experience is highly desirable. Experience using learning management systems and educational technology are highly desirable.
