Position Responsibilities:

Summary
The Internship for Women’s Basketball Strength and Conditioning will assist with administration and implementation of strength and conditioning facilities and programs. This Intern will directly assist with the implementation, supervision and monitoring of all facets of strength and conditioning programs for Women’s Basketball.

- Assist in the implementation, supervision and monitoring of all aspects of strength and conditioning including, but not limited to: speed, agility, flexibility, mobility programs.
- Assist in supervising the facilities and aid the Strength and Conditioning Coach in various aspects of coaching, testing and evaluation.
- Assist in spotting lifts and instructing proper lifting technique when directed.
- Effectively and properly motivate athletes to achieve their maximum potential in all areas of performance.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with fellow S&C teammates, athletic administration, fellow Student-Athlete Health and Welfare teammates, and sport coaching personnel.
- Learn to execute and instruct proper technique of each exercise.
- Daily upkeep and maintenance of facility and equipment.
- Keep updated on current strength and conditioning research.
- Maintain current CPR/AED certifications.
- Assist in general maintenance and cleaning of the facility and its equipment.
- Ensure the facility is in proper order when opening, throughout the day, and closing.
- Ensure the Industry Professional Standards and Guidelines are being met.
- Adhere to and only implement industry accepted, scientifically supported methodologies when dealing with the athletes. Methods must be tested and properly implemented into the overall training plan for each athlete.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

- CPR/AED certified.
- Hold or be in pursuit of CSCS or other accredited Strength and Conditioning Certification
- Compliance and adherence to NCAA, A10 Conference, University and departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Admittance into a VCU graduate program.

- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a graduate assistant at VCU.

Job Specific Physical and Cognitive Requirements:


Routinely moves objects in excess of 40 pounds, remain stationary for entire shift, work in various environmental conditions, and assist injured individuals on/off playing surfaces.
