QUALIFICATIONS:

The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida seeks an exceptional Veterinary Clinical Pathologist for a full-time, tenure-accruing faculty position. Candidates are expected to develop a creative and productive research program. The College of Veterinary Medicine embraces the One Health concept and offers many opportunities for collaborative projects that span animal, human and ecosystem health. Clinical experience and competence in clinical pathology diagnostic service is required. Experience, enthusiasm and effectiveness in graduate and professional student education is desired.

The successful candidate will be a strong team player interested in contributing and developing their clinical and teaching skills in a healthy, collaborative, and busy clinical teaching environment, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as strong or potential accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research/Scholarly Activity: A fundamental requirement of this position is developing a creative and productive research program in relevant fields of interest, to include publishing results in high quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals. The successful applicant is expected to obtain funding and direct research programs that could involve professional students, residents and/or graduate students.

Clinical Service: The position includes a clinical commitment to diagnostic service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students, residents and visiting scholars; providing diagnostic service; and advising and consulting with clinicians and residents.

Teaching: (1) Participation in lectures, discussions, and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; (2) participation in the VTH resident training program; and (3) participation in graduate academic programs (MS and PhD). A demonstrated commitment to training veterinary or other biomedical scientists and innovative teaching methods is preferred.

College/University Service: Active participation in college or university committees, professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate outlets is required. The department has a faculty mentoring program in which participation is expected.

College of Veterinary Medicine faculty members have opportunities to collaborate with research groups within the University of Florida Health-Shands Hospital system, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, to include the World Equestrian Center in nearby Ocala, Florida, and the Centers for Environmental and Human Toxicology and Inflammation and Mucosal Immunology, among others. The possibility of an appointment with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) and its mission-oriented research can be explored at the time an offer is issued if the successful candidate has research interests that align with this organization’s goals.

Expected Salary:

Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with experience of the successful candidate.

Minimum Requirements:

DVM/VMD degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications: A PhD degree and a background in translational and collaborative research is preferred in specialties aligned with clinical pathology, including, but not limited to: hematopathology, transfusion medicine, immunopathology/immunodiagnostics, infectious disease, molecular diagnostics, point of care (POC) testing technologies, cytopathology, clinical chemistry, and machine learning and/or biomarker development.
