Description

The Department of Art and Art History at DePauw University is seeking candidates for a one year, non-tenure-track position in Digital Art and Graphic Design beginning in August 2022. Applicants with an MFA in Digital Art or equivalent field with some expertise in Graphic Design are encouraged to apply. This full-time position includes a five course, in-person teaching load and studio management responsibilities. Faculty are given a private office and a separate studio in the award-winning, 82,000-sq. ft. Richard E. Peeler Art Center, as well as employment benefits, faculty development funding, presentation opportunities, and mentoring.

The chosen candidate will offer a Digital Art curriculum that provides students with tools to engage in virtual, mediated, and physical spaces, using contemporary digital technology in the creation, production, and/or exhibition of their art, as well as an introductory Graphic Design curriculum. Teaching responsibilities include two Introduction to Digital Art courses, two Introduction to Graphic Design courses, and one intermediate-level Digital Art class developed around the faculty member’s thematic interests or technical expertise. The successful candidate will manage the Digital Art studio, including identifying and implementing needed improvements and repair, budgeting for and managing studio supply budget, managing student equipment rental, supervising work-study students, and maintaining the studio throughout the year.

A commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment and evidence of effective and inclusive teaching are essential. The successful candidate will have the ability to speak to contemporary art practice across genres. The position offers opportunities to connect with centers such as Film Studies, Media Fellows, and the Tenzer Center and to collaborate with allied interdisciplinary departments/programs across campus such as Computer Science, Communications and Media Studies.
