Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher with expertise in the areas of fossil preparation, data collation and management, and statistical analysis of evolutionary patterns (particularly time series and trait covariances). The initial appointment will be for one year starting July 15, 2022, but may be renewed for four additional years, contingent on performance and/or renewal of funding. The salary will be competitive given the applicant’s degree status. The position is in the lab of Dr. Yoel Stuart. We are studying the Threespine Stickleback, Gasterosteus doryssus. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for (1) completing training with Dr. Stuart and Dr. M.A. Bell to develop fossil preparation skills; (2) transporting samples by truck between U. California Museum of Paleontology and Loyola University Chicago; (3) organizing the collection; (4) preparing and photographing >4500 fossil specimens; (5) collecting data from the specimens and photographs; (6) analyzing data; (7) preparing manuscripts; and (8) supervising undergraduate researchers assisting with the project. The postdoc position is a teaching postdoc, and the postdoc may teach courses as instructor of record depending on research requirements, funding, interest, and career goals. Qualifications
Applicants with a Ph.D. degree in evolution, paleobiology, paleontology, or a related field are preferred. Experience preparing small fossil vertebrates, either as a technician or during graduate training, is preferred to help demonstrate possession of the fine motor coordination, judgement, and patience needed to prepare large numbers of small fossil fish.
