Purpose of Job
The incumbent is responsible for the development of the cheer team and its members. He/she assists in the enforcement of all cheer team policies and procedures, leads cheer team member skills and performance development, coordinates and prepares cheer performance routines, and provides organization and structure to team practices, games and competitions.
Scope of Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for the technical and performance development of each squad member assuring each is learning an developing with skills, techniques and performance standards throughout each season
- Serves as a resource for developing, implementing, and enforcing cheerleader policies and procedures
- Provides regular support and direction and makes retention of students a goal and priority
- Provides strong academic emphasis and support of academic through leadership and activities of the squad
- Mindful of the contribution the cheer squad makes to the University community, including academic performance and participation in, and contribution to, alternate activities
Other Duties: other related duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Two (2) years’ cheerleader experience as a participant or coach
Licensing and Certifications
N/A
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject area (Cheer)
- Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
- Strong knowledge of Cheer skills and strategies
- Good communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal
- Strong coaching skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to recruit effectively
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community
