Position Details

Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
This is a tenure-track faculty position with expectations of librarianship, professional service and scholarship. The Research and Instruction Librarian is responsible for providing professional reference/information services to patrons, participating in the library’s instruction program, and building relationships with the university community to meet their teaching, learning, and research needs.

Subject Liaison Areas:
Art, Mass Communication, and Theatre & Musical Theatre

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Works with students, faculty, staff, and other library users in locating and interpreting library resources in all subject areas. This includes the use of the OPAC, electronic resources, and traditional printed resources which will satisfy information needs.
  • Serves as bibliographer for collection development in designated subject disciplines and to recommend materials for purchase, serve as liaison with the faculty in designated departments, facilitates resources recommendations from faculty, and promote the use of the library services and facilities among the faculty.
  • Prepares guides, web-based tutorials, and content/subject modules that teach research skills, including facilitating access to library collections and resources.
  • Provides formal and informal library instruction, and research consultations to groups and individuals as needed or as assigned.
  • Maintains a current working knowledge of academic library resources in other subject areas such as humanities, social sciences, education, sciences, health sciences, criminal justice and business.
  • Develops expertise in assigned subject areas and maintains current awareness of new reference initiatives in those areas.
  • Reviews potential library materials and informs subject faculty of resources relevant to their research and instruction activities.
  • Collaborates with the Instruction Librarian and the other Research and Instruction Librarians to design and develop outreach services to meet information needs of students; promotes awareness of library services and resources.
  • Participates in assessment of library services.
  • Keeps abreast of activities and changes in the profession by attending professional meetings; reading related literature and develops research or creative interests.
  • Works with other public service personnel to provide coordinated information services; interprets library policies and procedures for patrons and the public.
  • Participates in professional activities, professional development, scholarly research, publication and service activities as outlined in Academic Policy Statement 900417, Faculty Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion.
  • Participates in library reference, instruction, and outreach services; may include occasional night and weekend hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Educational Requirements for the Position
A degree from an American Library Association ( ALA ) accredited Master’s program (must be awarded by August 1, 2022). Experience Required for the Position
Preferred Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate coursework or academic library experience in art, mass communication, or theatre and musical theatre. Other Requirements for the Position
