Purpose of Position
Northern Kentucky University is conducting an internal search for a Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning ( CTL ). The Director will play an essential role in improving and assessing teaching and learning in undergraduate, graduate, and other educational programs across the university. The Director will create, coordinate, and implement effective programs to improve student-learning outcomes by enhancing instruction, faculty mentorship, and promoting inclusive teaching throughout the university.

Reporting to the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs, the Director oversees the CTL, serves as an ex officio member of the Teaching Effectiveness and Enhancement Committee ( TEEC ), and works closely with faculty and academic leaders on matters of instructional innovation and professional development.

The Director will serve on a renewable three-year term. Primary Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction for the CTL .

  • Collaborate with TEEC and other faculty and academic leaders to support innovative design and planning of curriculum and courses, and peer evaluation of teaching.

  • Provide leadership on strategic initiatives related toSuccess by Design, including High Impact Practice implementation, curriculum mapping, and the integration of career competencies into courses and programs.

  • Strengthen partnerships with deans, department chairs, and other leaders to address issues related to effective teaching.

  • Facilitate a comprehensive program of professional development opportunities to advance teacher-scholar innovation across all facets of faculty life. This includes identifying and coordinating professional development offerings, both in-person and online, in collaboration with various university entities, including the Scripps Howard Center for Civic Engagement; CITE ; the Office of Inclusive Excellence; TEEC ; the Office of Research, Grants and Contracts; Academic Partnerships, Human Resources, and others, to deepen and extend learning.

  • Plan and execute the annual Norse Educators’ Summit

  • Administer support for new faculty, including the teaching course for new faculty

  • Coordinate faculty mentorship programs

  • Oversee and expand faculty recognition activities.

  • Raise NKU’s profile related to faculty innovation and excellence, especially in the area of inclusive teaching.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in an appropriate field; doctoral degree preferred.

  • Passion for learning and the role of learning in professional education.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to interact comfortably and respectfully with diverse individuals and within diverse cultures.

  • Demonstrated record of excellence in academic project design, implementation, and management.

  • Proven leadership skills in articulating and executing a motivating vision.

  • Demonstrated ability to form productive collaborations with faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to disseminate detailed data to different audiences clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to generate professional development opportunities aimed at enhancing instructional practices that will engage faculty for whom teaching is one of many responsibilities.

  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals, and manage multiple priorities and initiatives.

  • Responsible skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
Minimum Education Master's Degree Preferred Education Doctorate
