Job Description:

The University of Florida/Shands/UF Health Care affiliated institutions present a rich diversity of inpatient and outpatient clinical material. Scholarly study and investigation in the applicant's area of interest is expected.

Primary responsibilities will technical, operational, and strategic oversight of the UF Health Shands Hospital Laboratory and other UF Health Shands off-site laboratories. This individual will serve as the CLIA Medical Director of our 1162 beds quaternary care hospital and will oversee operations of two stand-alone emergency facilities and multiple surgical centers. The successful candidate will be a key leader in the Department and at the hospital level. Our CLIA laboratory director interacts with stakeholders across the system to ensure the highest quality of laboratory-based and point of care testing for our UF Health patients. Training and board eligibility or certification in a specific clinical pathology subspecialty is desirable and clinical effort will be directed in areas of specialization. Other allocation of effort is flexible, with clinician-educator and clinician-scientist tracks available for candidates with interest in teaching or have funded research portfolios. Teaching efforts will be directed at residents and fellows in pathology and other disciplines, medical and dental students, and other graduate level trainees in the College of Medicine.

Minimum Requirements:

Physician applicants must have an M.D. or D.O. degree with board certification in clinical pathology and/or anatomic pathology and possess or be eligible for a Florida Medical license. Non-physicians must possess a PhD degree and board certification or eligibility in Clinical Chemistry (American Board of Clinical Chemistry or National Registry of Certified Chemists) o or other subspecialty in clinical pathology. Relevant fellowship training is is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in clinical laboratory management, technical problem solving, automation, laboratory information systems, interpretation of clinical tests, and clinical consultation is required. The candidate should have an established track record of peer reviewed work and desire for advancing knowledge in the field. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
