St. John's University

Dean, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences

St. John's University in Queens, New York seeks a visionary, collaborative, and interdisciplinary leader to serve as its next Dean, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (CPHS). Reporting to the Provost, the Dean serves as the CPHS chief executive and intellectual leader. The incoming Dean will be a champion of the College's mission; shape the vision, goals, and objectives for the College; generate resources in support of those priorities; and oversee the CPHS operations. The Dean will be a forward-thinking and strategic leader, equipped to take CPHS to the next level for innovative health professions education and high impact research.

Founded in 1870 by the Congregation of the Mission (the Vincentians), St. John’s University is proud to fulfill its mission by educating one of the most diverse student bodies in the United States. St. John’s University instills in its students not only the desire for knowledge and pursuit of academic excellence but also the compassion to serve others—especially those most in need—following the example of St. Vincent de Paul. St. John’s University offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs and is comprised of six Schools and Colleges.

The next Dean will build on the solid foundation of the CPHS current strengths, and engage the community in developing and implementing a compelling and innovative vision and strategy for the future. The Dean will oversee and strengthen interdisciplinary and interprofessional education, research, and community service; ensure financial sustainability; and build community both within and beyond the College. The Dean will oversee the successful launch and integration of the College's new programs in nursing and physical therapy while supporting and ensuring the ongoing success of the CPHS longstanding programs.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a track record of increasingly responsible and successful leadership roles in higher education. The Dean will be a natural collaborator and an effective and transparent communicator and will have a strong understanding and support for the institution’s Catholic and Vincentian mission. Candidates must possess a Ph.D., Ed.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent with a background in pharmacy or other relevant science background, with at least five years of progressive academic and leadership experience. Candidates should have recognition for achievement that would warrant appointment as a faculty member at the rank of full professor with tenure.

Please direct all nominations, inquiries, and application materials (CV or Resume and Cover Letter) to Joyce De Leo, Ph.D., Claudia Teschky, and Lyndsey Nicodem via A full leadership profile is also available upon request. For fullest consideration, candidate materials should be received by May 9th, 2022.
