Purpose of Job

The Resident Coordinator is a full-time, live-in position. The Resident Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing community development, staffing functions, enforcing the code of student conduct, and administrative details for resident students. The RC directly supervises student workers including a part-time Resident Assistant staff. The RC is entrusted to guide the development of students.

Education Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION : Associate degree required
PREFERRED EDUCATION : Bachelor’s or master’s degree

Experience Requirements

REQUIRED TRAINING OR CERTIFICATIONS : will need to be certified in CPR /First Aid

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS : One year of previous School Housing experience

Responsibilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
  • Understanding and adherence to applicable ethical standards
  • Understanding of student developmental theory and practice ability to add value to the mission of the student services
STAFFING
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates Resident Assistants (RAs) in their responses to the needs of residents.
  • Plans and implements activities that serve as on-the-job training and that promote opportunities for personal growth and development for the RAs.
  • Assists in the departmental and community processes designed to effectively select, orient, and train student staff.
STUDENT / COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
  • Participates in the management of student behavior needs and issues in the halls by responding to incidents, meeting with students, and pursuing appropriate administrative or student conduct actions.
  • Provides consultation and referral for students on residential matters (e.g., mediation of interpersonal conflicts, providing relevant information, interpreting policies and procedures).
  • Assists staff and residents in establishing an atmosphere and encouraging behavior that ensure relative freedom, quiet, privacy, security, and a sense of responsibility in the residence halls. Shapes an environment conducive to academic and personal development.
  • Assists in coordinating assessment of student needs and interests.
  • Coordinates and supports hall/community efforts to provide academic, social, and cultural activities which foster the development of positive citizens, scholars and leaders.
  • Promotes intercultural understanding and inclusion, rightful place, and sense of belonging in the community through activities, training, supervision, and interpersonal communication.
  • Trains and guides RA staff and students in the development and implementation of educational activities that serve a diverse student population.

ADMINISTRATION / MANAGEMENT
  • Participates in the establishment of goals and objectives for the community.
  • Actively strives to foster and maintain a workplace climate that is supportive of all employees and students regardless of their identity, is respectful of differences, and exhibits a genuine openness to multiple perspectives.
  • Participates in an on-duty rotation throughout the calendar year to respond to incidents and emergencies.
  • Maintains office hours, responds to written and oral communications, and conducts and attends meetings as required.
  • Works with Facilities and Housekeeping staffs to promote a safe and clean environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

WORK SCHEDULE : Full-time – 40 hours per week – Hours will vary – some day hours, some evening and weekend hours required.

Additionally, you must be willing and able to work rotating shifts and be on call as needed to support residents, respond to maintenance calls, or other incidents that may arise.

WORKING CONDITIONS :
  • Equipment used includes desktop or laptop with Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work generally performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

TRAVEL : As needed to support the mission, vision, and values of PTC .
