Position Description:

The Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) division seeks non-tenure track adjunct faculty to teach Foundations of Immersive Storytelling: Theory and Practice within the Film & Media program. The course will be taught at The JHU MICA Film Center beginning August 29th for 15 weeks, meeting once weekly for 2 hours and 45 minutes. Candidates with teaching experience and those with experience teaching and engaging students from diverse backgrounds are of particular interest.

Foundations of Immersive Storytelling: Theory and Practice

This introductory course will provide students with the tools and the mind set for making compelling VR/AR experiences. While the industry is nascent, the technological and storytelling innovations move forward at breakneck speed. Students will also, each class, dissect to understand the approaches to the current catalog of immersive experiences, ranging from 360 film, to animation and room scale installation experiences, often with creators who made them to understand challenges and lessons learned. Subsequently, after this overview, students will have the option to build their own prototypes and, also, to support a VR/AR project housed within the program with a leading artist.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An advanced degree in writing, digital media or filmmaking or in another relevant field, with a master’s degree at minimum
  • Significant professional work experience within the Film, TV or VR/AR business
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-3 years of graduate level teaching experience

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
