Our focus is ensuring every student graduates.

The Center for Student Success is in the second year of implementing our revised model of holistic advising. This model expanded how we support students using a data-informed, comprehensive approach which leverages the expertise, influence, and resources of campus partners to support student learning and remove barriers to students’ success. This case management approach requires Student Success Advisors to build rapport quickly, to connect with campus partners, and to communicate effectively across stakeholder groups.

  • Provide case management to increase students’ likelihood of academic and personal collegiate success. In consultation with Center staff, utilize alerts, probationary statuses, account holds, low mid-term grades, and other signifiers to identify and prioritize student retention concerns; facilitate successful interventions; coordinate communication with faculty and staff regarding alerts, and connect students with appropriate resources.
  • Prepare for and teach assigned sections of College Success Seminar for incoming students with the goal of supporting them through their transition and moving them toward responsibility for their own academic and collegiate goal achievement.
  • Coordinate designated special project areas. Establish timelines and roles, develop programming, evaluate effectiveness and make recommendations for future improvement. Assist with strategic planning including strategic internal and external partnerships, identification of supplemental resources, development opportunities for faculty and staff, and/or student advocacy as appropriate. Populations may include first-generation, international, military-affiliated, commuter, and transfer students.
  • Fulfill a variety of assigned administrative responsibilities to accomplish individual and departmental goals, as well as other administrative and operational duties as assigned. Some of these responsibilities may include serving students during drop-in hours, contributing to campus committees and learning communities, and assisting during staff vacancies.
  • Participate as a visible member of and positive contribution to the Carthage community, as well as a model of lifelong learning and development for Carthage students.
  • This position is a 12-month exempt position.
