Purpose of Position
The Dance Coach has the responsibility for the overall operation of the dance program in accordance with Northern Kentucky University ( NKU ), National Collegiate Athletics Association ( NCAA ), the Universal Dance Association ( UDA ) and Horizon League rules and regulations. The head coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing a dance program that emphasizes the educational welfare of its student team members and provides leadership in development of school spirit.
Note: No benefits provided with this position. Primary Responsibilities
Regular Duties
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Prior experience as a member of a dance team; preferably at the collegiate or professional level
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a dance team coach, preferably at the collegiate level
Any candidate who is offered this position will be required to go through a pre-employment criminal background check as mandated by state law.

Regular Duties
- Plan and oversee practices, which start in the summer and continue throughout the basketball season. Develop routines that will be performed at home athletic events.
- Attend all home basketball games and select other home athletic events. Attend Horizon League tournament and NCAA Championship events as directed by the Athletics Director or her/his designee.
- Prepare and oversee approved budget and order necessary equipment.
- Handle all travel arrangements: vehicle request, meal/lodging reservations, and necessary correspondence. Responsible for driving van and supervising the performances of the dance team.
- Organize tryouts annually. Secure judges for these and handle notification to applicants.
- Periodically check to see if grades are up to standards and give referral guidance as needed. Work with Director of Compliance for grade checks.
- Plan, organize and conduct fundraising initiatives to augment budget, further build interest, and recruit dance team members.
- Fulfill requests for team appearances at community functions as needed.
