PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Resident Dean & Assistant Director position is designed to provide new and emerging mid-level Student Affairs professionals with the opportunity and experiences necessary to support career advancement.
- As a live-in professional, the Resident Dean is responsible for the overall supervision of a designated residential area. The Resident Dean works to create an inclusive residential environment that fosters student development, academic achievement, and the development of a safe, healthy and respectful community.
- As a member of the Residential and Student Life Staff, the Resident Dean is responsible for administering a variety of operational, educational, and developmental functions, designed to foster personal development and a sense of community within the residence hall.
In support of the professional development and growth of the Resident Dean position, Landmark College is committed to providing all Residents Deans with collateral assignment under its Assistant Director (AD) initiative. These collateral assignments allow Resident Deans exposure and professional experiences in other functional areas within Student Affairs. Collateral assignments included (but are certainly not limited to) housing operations, conduct, summer programs, Transition to College (TAC), athletic coaching, and campus life. Resident Deans also have the option of designing and petitioning for their own collateral assignment to support their own professional growth while meeting the needs of Landmark College.
- As a member of the Division of Student Affairs, the Resident Dean participates in a full range of activities that enhance the development and operation of the division. Summer responsibility may include participation in department-wide initiatives, working with summer programs or special projects.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Resident Dean & Assistant Director reports to the Director of Residential Life (AD/DRL).
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assistant Director of Transition at College
Specific duties related to the Assistant Director role will vary based on role but at a minimum, will include the following expectations in support of the Transition at College program that is housed in Frost Work in collaboration with Assistant Dean/Director of Transition at College (TaC), Tac assistant, and Tac advisor on all aspects of program design and delivery
- Provide weekly direct student support in the form of 1:1 coaching / support meetings; participate in family meetings (2-3 meetings per term)
- Design and facilitate weekly group check-ins with the Tac cohort
- Supervise the Tac Assistant; oversee Tac program orientation / training for Frost Hall Residential Assistants
- Assist in the design and facilitation of service / social excursions and Accessible Allies series
QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential qualifications include: A master's degree in Higher Education Administration or related field is preferred, a Bachelor's degree is required. Prior residence hall experience at the graduate or professional level is preferred. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills is required. Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to issues of equity, diversity and inclusion. Demonstrated understanding of student development theory, working with neuro-divergent students, and/or restorative practices a plus. The ability to responsibly handle sensitive/confidential information is critical, as well as the ability to work flexible, and non-traditional hours. This is a 12-month, live-in position.
