The University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout) is seeking applications for the Associate Provost of Curriculum Quality. The position provides a critical role in advancing academic excellence for the university. UW-Stout invites applicants who are dedicated to student success, through the prioritization of an inclusive learning and work environment, and in support of the university’s polytechnic tenets of applied learning, career focus and collaboration.

As a direct report to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the position will work with shared governance, faculty, staff and students, on curricular processes including institutional accreditation, inter-institutional academic partnerships, academic program review, assessment of student learning, curriculum development processes and the development of a Comprehensive Academic Plan.  The position joins a dynamic leadership team within academic affairs, working in support of the university’s FOCUS2030 strategic plan.

This is a full-time, annual, limited appointment.  Applicants may be considered for a concurrent tenure appointment per UWS Administrative Policy 1250. The projected start date is July 1, 2022.

ABOUT THE JOB:         Associate Vice Chancellor (Inst) / AD009   




Minimum / Required


  • Terminal academic degree in a university-related discipline with a record of accomplishment in the areas of teaching, research, and service that would merit appointment as a tenured professor (associate rank or higher) in one of the departments of the university 
  • Two years of leadership experience supervising and evaluating staff 
  • Experience with continuous improvement initiatives related to curriculum  
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills in working with a diverse community of faculty, staff, students, and campus stakeholders  
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusivity, and professional development of faculty and staff 
  • Attention to detail, proofreading, and editing skills 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment and on collaborative efforts with diverse user groups 
  • Excellent judgment including sensitivity to personal and confidential information 


Highly Desired


  • Experience with providing leadership of academic programs or services 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the challenges of a rapidly changing higher education environment at the local, state, and national levels 
  • Strong record of teaching, research, scholarship, publication, creative activities, and/or professional experience in alignment with the polytechnic mission of UW-Stout 
  • Demonstrated experience in infusing equity, diversity, and inclusion into the curriculum



Curriculum Quality 

  • Assist in the Institution’s assessment of academic programs, including general education 
  • Assist in the Institution’s development and maintenance of a comprehensive academic plan 
  • Collaborate with college representatives and shared governance in academic program development and review 
  • Coordinate academic affairs documentation per University of Wisconsin System and Higher Learning Commission requirements 
  • Create, review, and interpret academic policies and procedures 
  • Includes review and approval of curricular requests, substitution and waiver requests, special topics and one/two-time course offerings, course fee waiver requests, and excess credit fee waiver requests 
  • Assist with articulation and transfer issues 
  • Assist with discipline-specific accreditation processes 
  • Assist with coordination of credit for prior learning/prior learning assessment initiatives 
  • Serve as the provosts’ representative on Faculty Senate committees related to curricular and programmatic quality. Currently: 
  • Academic Affairs Administrative Team (AAAT) 
  • Curriculum and Instruction Committee (CIC) 
  • Educational Activities Committee (EAC) 
  • General Education Committee (GEC) 
  • Graduate Education Committee (GrEC) 
  • Racial and Ethnic Studies/Global Perspective Committee (RES/GLP) 
  • Planning and Review Committee (PRC) 


Academic Affairs Leadership 

  • Serve as the provost’s representative on the following committees: 
  • Provost’s Council 
  • Dean’s Issues 
  • Access to Learning (ATL) 
  • Special Course Fee (SCF)  
  • Supervise direct reports which currently include: the Directors of the Nakatani Teaching and Learning Center, General Education, Instructional Design Team, and the University Curriculum Data Manager.  
  • Work with campus stakeholders, including the Associate Provost of Partner and Student Engagement, their reporting units and shared governance leaders, to implement coordinated efforts that foster curriculum quality  
  • Organize and facilitate the Department Chair and Program Director training/orientations, in consultation with the academic colleges 
  • Assist with curriculum-related projects and initiatives involving external stakeholders 
  • Represent the Provost’s Office at university and community events 
  • Assist the provost with special projects and new initiatives
