Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) seeks an experienced, visionary leader for the position of Dean of the School of Nursing. This is an opportunity for a creative, entrepreneurial leader to play a pivotal role in advancing a compelling vision that will define what it means to be a forward-thinking nursing school and address the critical needs of the profession. The new Dean will prepare the school for the future of health care where technology and new teaching methodologies are changing the landscape of higher education.

The new Dean will build on the current success of the school and its faculty and take it to the next level of its development as a national leader in teaching, practice, scholarly activity, and service. The Dean, engaging faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners throughout HPU, will provide intellectual leadership and strategic direction for the future of nursing education, so that the school will maintain a prominent role both regionally, nationally, and internationally in addressing the evolving needs of the profession.

HPU is a private, not-for-profit institution of approximately 4,600 students with a full-time equivalent enrollment of 3,144 undergraduates and 429 graduate students coming from all 50 states, U.S. territories, and nearly 65 countries. Founded in 1965, HPU is Hawaiʻi’s largest private university with its core campus in the heart of Honolulu’s business district. HPU’s investment in the urban student experience translates to greater hands-on experiences for students, expanded interdisciplinary collaboration between colleges and programs, and deeper engagement with the community of Honolulu and the state of Hawai'i. HPU is also currently recognized for having the most diverse student population in the nation.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Dean provides leadership and vision in strategic planning and implementation of programs, ensures the strong infrastructure required to support excellence and innovation in undergraduate and graduate nursing education, and leads school development activities. The Dean is expected to foster collaborative and strategic partnerships with other schools and colleges within HPU, other programs of nursing, other institutions of higher education, health care organizations, and the Hawaiian community. The Dean serves as a strong advocate for the school, furthering its reputation and visibility locally, nationally, and internationally.

HPU seeks a Dean with high academic standards, a strong record of scholarship, a demonstrated commitment to diversity, and an ability to serve as an advocate for the school, advancing its reputation and visibility locally, nationally, and internationally. The new Dean must be able to foster collaborative partnerships with other colleges within the university, other programs of nursing, other institutions of higher education, and health care organizations. It is expected that the Dean will monitor trends in nursing education, maintain accreditation standards, and will mentor and provide counsel to faculty.
