Associate Dean/Director, OSU School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences

The Ohio State University College of Medicine seeks an Associate Dean/Director who will provide ambitious and innovative leadership for its School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. This is an exciting time for a new leader to join our forward-thinking organization. The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center are undergoing nearly $3 billion in capital improvements to include a new hospital tower, a new Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center, a new interdisciplinary research building and expanding Innovation District on west campus to promote and expand interdisciplinary research and innovation.

The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is one of the most comprehensive health science centers in the nation and part of the top-ranked OSU College of Medicine https://hrs.osu.edu/. Many of the School’s programs have been recognized by US News & World Report including its Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at #9, its Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program at #13, and its Online Health Science Program at #4 in the nation. The School is comprised of 9 divisions, supporting 20 programs: Athletic Training (MAT); Health Information Management and Systems (BS plus 2 certificates); Health Sciences (in-person and online options); Medical Dietetics (MDN); Medical Laboratory Sciences (BS, Minor, coordinated MS); Occupational Therapy (OTD and certificate); Physical Therapy (DPT); Radiologic Sciences (Radiography, Sonography, Radiation Therapy BS; AS-BS); Respiratory Therapy (BS; MRT).  The faculty across programs support our MS and PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.

The director serves as the administrative head of the School, with oversight of faculty, staff, educational programs, budget, and strategic direction. The successful candidate will lead the way in defining and implementing a vision for the school to thrive in a changing climate for healthcare, education and research in the fields of health and rehabilitation sciences. This individual will have the opportunity to engage with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to build collaborations with the College of Medicine, the Health Sciences Colleges and the University as well as the community and healthcare systems.

The new director will lead the faculty and staff in curriculum development, outreach, engagement, operations, and governance. The director will be an advocate for the school, its faculty and students, promoting and providing support and mentorship for scholarly activity. The director will work with university and health science leaders to expand a longitudinal curriculum of interprofessional education to transform clinical practice and promote health equity. 

The successful candidate will be a dedicated educator and recognized scholar with expertise in one or more areas of teaching and scholarship that align with the programs in the School. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a firm commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and have experience with research, educational, and community engagement programs that meet the needs of marginalized and underserved populations.

Qualifications: 

- PhD or equivalent required (EdD, ScD)

- National/international record of scholarly achievement commensurate with the position of associate professor or professor with tenure, including a distinguished and sustained record of scholarly achievement, teaching excellence at the post-secondary level, and professional service. 

- Demonstrated and effective leadership and administrative experience in academia, with desired experience in fundraising, budgeting, and management. 

- Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrated ability to cultivate positive work relationships with diverse students, colleagues, and staff. 

- Experience in leading change and the ability to work successfully across disciplines within a diverse and complex organization. 

- Experience in undergraduate and graduate education with the ability to support and further develop the School’s existing and potential research and educational programs. 

- Experience with successful collaborations, for example those with other academic units, centers/institutes, community partners, and professional organizations.
