The expected salary range for this position is $130,000 up to $150,000 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

Job Summary:

The senior associate director will lead the strategy, coordination, and oversight of application review and related processes in alignment with the vision of the director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment and campus priorities. This position will supervise four assistant directors who plan and execute the application review, admissions services processes, remote reader program, and transfer teams. The senior associate director for admissions will serve as a member of the senior-level leadership team.

Responsibilities:

Plans and provides direction for the administrative operations of the institution to advance program goals and objectives.
  • 45% Recommends, reviews, and directs personnel resource allocation to ensure appropriate utilization of resources
  • 10% Supervises managerial, professional, and support staff of the unit or division and facilitates unit staff developmental opportunities
  • 10% Serves as liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the institution
  • 10% Develops and audits administrative operating reports, budgets, policies, and procedures to comply with regulations, institution policies, and business objectives
  • 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 5% Serves as a subject matter expert in the division and on campus for undergraduate admissions and how to review undergraduate applications
  • 5% DEM is committed to the highest standard of service. This position will be a role model by practicing exemplary, respectful and inclusive behaviors in all interactions. Participation in unit and divisional diversity & inclusion plans are mandatory
  • 5% Oversees the creation and maintenance of procedures used in application review
  • 5% Leads application review process based on institutional priorities for each new incoming class
Tasks:
  • Collaborate with the senior associate director team to lead office-wide initiatives and directives
  • Facilitate the development of professional staff team members through setting clear job expectations, encouraging ongoing professional development, and completing mid-point and annual reviews
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of application review and related processes in alignment with the vision of the Director of Admissions and Recruitment
  • Participate in work groups, committees, and collaborative projects that engage in application review
  • Serve as a member of the senior administration in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment
  • Support unit team leads in aligning unit goals with office strategic direction
  • Support decision making groups and individuals across unit
  • Support the Director of Admissions and Recruitment in setting strategic direction and developing high-level expectations for application review

Minimum years and type of relevant work experience required:

--A bachelor's degree is required, as is at least seven years' experience in the field of admissions in higher education, preferably within a large, complex institutional setting
--Experience with application review
--Supervisory experience
--Project management and/or strategic planning experience

The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison), the state's public flagship institution of higher learning, seeks an experienced, innovative and collaborative leader to serve as its next senior associate director for admissions in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment in the Division of Enrollment Management.

The mission of the Division of Enrollment Management (DEM) is to strategically achieve UW-Madison's enrollment goals and collaborate with campus partners to provide information and services to enhance student success. The Division includes the following offices: Admissions and Recruitment, Student Financial Aid, Registrar, the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab, and the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. Together, these units collectively provide the foundation of support and services for the academic infrastructure throughout the student lifecycle. The division is committed to the highest standard of service for students, colleagues, visitors and other stakeholders. Reporting to the director of the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, the senior associate director for admissions will provide critical strategic leadership for the application review processes, which includes more than 65,000 domestic and international first-year and transfer applications, annually. This is one of several new positions for the office which were developed as a result of a recently-completed organizational assessment. The assessment was initiated due to exponential increases in applications and increased campus recruitment initiatives. Both factors have significantly strained systems and team members. A reorganization, including this position and several others, were a direct result of this work.

Guided by the vision of the director, this position is responsible for long-term planning undergraduate application review, working collaboratively to develop and implement sustainable and efficient plans, systems and processes with management team members within their unit and across the office and division, as well as with units/schools/colleges/divisions across campus.

The senior associate director oversees approximately 25 permanent and 45 seasonal team members and directly supervises four assistant directors who plan and execute the application review, admissions services processes, remote reader program, and transfer teams. The senior associate director will serve as a member of the office's executive leadership team. Positions reporting directly to the senior associate director include:
