Salem Academy and College, the oldest continuously operating educational institution for girls and women in the country by its founding date of 1772, invites applications for Associate Dean for Adult, Part-Time & Transfer Students. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs & Dean of Undergraduate Studies, the Associate Dean of Adult, Part-Time & Transfer Students is responsible for providing oversight of the undergraduate academic programs that support Salem College’s adult, part-time, and transfer students, with primary emphases on student recruitment, onboarding, advising, and retention.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides leadership for all aspects of the Martha H. Fleer Center for Adult Education, which includes the following:
    • Leads student recruitment, registration, advising, and retention initiatives
    • Manages the Fleer Center office and supervises the staff
    • Establishes and assesses departmental goals and outcomes
    • Manages the Fleer Center budget and the Fleer Scholarship Program
    • Serves as adviser to the Fleer Leadership Council and Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society
    • Serves as the representative and spokesperson for the Fleer Center to the college’s board, administration, faculty, and students
    • Serves on faculty committees as established in the Faculty Constitution
    • Reviews and approves applications and contracts for the FURR Pay it Forward Fund, credit for prior learning, and directed studies
    • Assists with planning and executing Fleer events
    • Works collaboratively with various offices on campus, from Enrollment Management to Financial Aid, to ensure messaging and policies related to Fleer students are accurate and accessible
    • Actively pursues developing relationships with local businesses to grow possibilities for the development of certificate programs and other credentials for adult students
  • Provides support for part-time and transfer students, including the following:
  • Advises part-time and transfer students until they declare their majors
  • Engages in retention initiatives to support part-time and transfer students
  • Answers inquiries from prospective and current part-time and transfer students
  • Plays a key role on the college’s Early Alert team, which monitors at-risk students and collaborates on intervention strategies
  • On behalf of Fleer, transfer, and part-time students, manages the following:
    • Address student grievances, as applicable to the position
    • Maintains database of articulation agreements, dual degree relationships, and cross-registration agreements. Regularly reviews agreements, promotes, and assesses the partnerships based on student outcomes. Promotes agreements to prospective and current students
    • Maintains web pages, emails, policies, and other communications related to adult, part-time, and transfer students to ensure accuracy and effectiveness.

 

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned master’s degree from an accredited academic institution
  • At least two years of academic advising experience in higher education
  • Experience with health-related academic program advising, recruitment, retention or programming
  • Three years of progressively responsible administrative/educational leadership experience
  • A thorough understanding of the needs of adult learners, part-time, and transfer students
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in a health-oriented discipline. Candidates with academic or work experience in the field of health leadership, broadly defined, are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Experience advising transfer students and/or adult learners
  • Experience leading student retention initiatives
  • Background and/or experience in a health-related field or institution, preferred.
