Postdoctoral Fellow

About the Opportunity

The laboratory of Dr. Diomedes Logothetis is seeking postdoctoral fellows trained as computational chemists to extend its computational efforts from the Northeastern University, Boston campus to Northeastern's Roux Institute in Portland, ME. Relevant areas of experience might include direct application of molecular dynamics to drug discovery, computer-aided drug design, molecular modeling, fragment-based approaches. Our current projects include investigations of ion channel proteins gated by the plasma membrane signaling phospholipid PI(4,5)P2. A demonstrated interest in developing computational chemistry methods to enable more accurate and effective MD simulations is desirable. Specific knowledge of any of these areas is less critical, however, than strong research skills, and a history of innovation and accomplishment. Successful candidates will directly further the group's drug discovery aims. This is anticipated to be a two-year position.
Qualifications

Ph.D. in computational chemistry or other relevant discipline

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Structure-based drug design using computational approaches applied to the G protein-gated inwardly rectifying K+ (GIRK) channels 1-4 (GIRK1-4) homomers and relevant heteromers. 40%
  • Setting up MD simulations of Ion Channel proteins in complex with PI(4,5)P2under conditions favoring the channel open conformation such that relevant ion would flow down an electrochemical gradient. Milestone achieved with ion channel gating and ion permeation. 40%
  • Developing computational chemistry methods to enable more accurate and effective MD simulations 20%
