Job Duties:
This position works closely with the Network and Systems Engineers to architect and manage the campus technology enterprise. Works as part of the team involved with installation, integration, and management of all central network, computing, and storage resources in a Windows and Linux environment. Administers account management, backups, provisioning of computing, storage, and network resources, and all daily central computing/network management tasks as required. Performs as the primary backup to the Network and Systems Engineer. Requires cross training in assigned areas and will support technologies used in the computer science academic cybersecurity labs including server management, application software installation, VDI deployments, and network infrastructure management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to changing work scope and tasks based on need.
  • Work outside of normal business hours as necessary to avoid disruption of the university's business process.
  • Participate in a rotating, after-hour monitor and respond schedule for enterprise systems and services.
  • Perform ongoing research and assessments to ensure university technology needs are known.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement security and management enhancements.
  • Install, configure, monitor, and manage central network and application servers (HW/VM).
  • Install and manage enterprise applications.
  • Deploy, configure, monitor, and manage the hardware (UCS and EMC AFA) to support the data center environment.
  • Deploy, configure, monitor and manage Microsoft and Unix based servers (HW/SW/VM).
  • Monitor, respond to, and troubleshoot system level issues relating to all server, storage, network, and Internet resources.
  • Install, configure, monitor, and manage backup solutions.
  • Create and schedule systems backups.
  • Verify mission critical backups replicates to off-site storage sites, and usable.
  • Design, configure, deploy, manage, and monitor network nodes and security devices to provide efficient and secure routing of traffic on and off campus.
  • Configure and monitor enterprise security tools such as perimeter firewalls, web filter, email virus and spam firewalls, and email archive system.
  • Deploy, configure, and manage network access control services.
  • Manage secure access services by VPN, VDI, SFTP, Wi-Fi and other services that may be added.
  • Provision and manage VPN, wireless, and mobile resources and their access.
  • Deploy, monitor, and manage end-node security solutions, periodically review solutions to ensure continued applicability.
  • Oversee and manage emergency generator testing, services, and contract.

  • Provide daily account management and resource assignments.
  • Provision and manage Active Directory (AD), self-hosted Exchange and Office 365 accounts.
  • Create and modify AD security and distribution groups.
  • Create and distribute enterprise shares.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve user accounts, access, and permissions.
  • Manage MS Systems Center Configuration Manager and its subcomponents.
  • Manage and track the distribution and use of DHCP, reserved, and statically assigned IP addresses.
  • Shared management of the storage area network (SAN) devices.
  • Manage the network attached storage (NAS) devices.
  • Manage on-site optical storage system.
  • Software application configuration, installation, integration, monitoring, and upgrading.
  • Monitor and assist with the management of the VoIP environment and services.
  • Ensure appropriate security practices are in place and followed in all areas of responsibility.
  • Collaborate with technical team on the development and implementation of all systems and processes as required.
  • Actively work towards building cooperative and collaborative relationships with peers, faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements to work practices and offers viable solutions for implementation.
  • Proactively engage in problem solving related to tasks in this position with internal and external people.
  • Routinely practice self-monitoring by assessing self to make improvements or take corrective action to improve performance.
  • Completes other tasks as assigned.


Required Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a discipline with defined structure, logic, and problem solving required or equivalent work experience may be substituted. Master’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of full-time work experience managing information technology with three (3) years of experience with primary job responsibilities for providing highly available, enterprise network/systems resources to a large user community requiring online access 24X7 required
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft and Linux server operating systems; enterprise backup systems; enterprise and workgroup file management; Network attached storage (NAS); storage area network (SAN); Internet Protocol version 4 (1Pv4) management; Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI); Active Directory, Microsoft e-mail, and other technologies adopted with hands-on experience in upgrading and replacing components in servers, external and network storage devices.


REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:
  • Professional certifications desired.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service and organizational skills and have the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff, required
  • Evening and weekend work as needed.
