The Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures is seeking a full-time Instructor or Assistant Professor of Linguistics, specializing in Phonology. This is a three-year fixed-term position for academic years 2022-2025, starting August 16, 2022. A Master's degree or equivalent in Linguistics is required for the Instructor position; a PhD for the Assistant Professor position. All degrees must be conferred by the time of appointment. Advanced PhD candidates are encouraged to apply. 

The selected candidate will have a teaching load of 5 courses per academic year. They will teach undergraduate and graduate Phonology courses. Depending on the program’s needs and the candidate’s qualifications, they will also teach one or more undergraduate courses in Phonetics, Data Analysis, Introduction to Linguistics, or Integrative Studies in the Arts and Humanities. In addition to the above teaching load, 17% of the contract will be allocated to research advising; therefore, the candidate should have an active research program in Phonology so that they can (i) participate in the Phonology and Phonetics research group; (ii) be available for consultation with graduate students on their research; (iii) advise up to 2 undergraduate senior theses per year.

Desired Qualifications
  • ABD or Ph.D in Linguistics at the time of appointment.
  • College-level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Active research program in Phonology.
