Position Summary
Student Services Assistant
Student Financial Services
Full Time Student Financial Services is a central student service
center that provides end-to-end student focused support in the
areas of financial aid, student accounts and other university
accounts receivables. The Student Services Assistant's role is to
greet students, answer basic questions regarding financial aid and
their student accounts and to direct them to a Student Services
Specialist when they have special needs.
Primary Responsibilities
Greet students and other customers as they enter Student
Financial Services and assist them by providing basic information
and direction regarding their accounts and financial aid
Regularly staff the Cashier's office to process both student
and non-student payments, prepare bank deposits and other
cashiering duties as assigned
Sort and distribute the daily mail
Maintain the customer service area and ensure all supplies and
forms are stocked and current
Receive and review documents from students and advise them of
other documents they may need to submit for various processes to
include the verification process and special circumstance
applications
Refer students with special needs or complex situations to a
Student Services Specialist
Handle all information with tact and discretion and recognize
the confidential and sensitive nature of University business
Advocate for a positive student enrollment experience and
promote the University in a positive image
Utilize various University, business, and customer service
software programs and assist with system testing and upgrades
Assist with the development and implementation of policies and
procedures
Keep up to date with university, departmental, federal, and
state regulations, policies, and updates
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Experience handling complex customer service issues with the
ability to assess situations quickly and react to customers
accurately and pleasantly in a timely manner
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and
Outlook
Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to solve
problems, including the ability to help inexperienced individuals
understand policies and processes
Ability to handle confidential information, exercise sound
judgment and maintain accurate records and files
Experience working as part of a team in a collaborative work
environment
Ability to establish and maintain relationships with diverse
populations
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organizational and time-management skills including
the ability to successfully prioritize and manage multiple tasks
with minimal supervision
Evidence of the ability to analyze, interpret and implement
federal, state and/or University regulations, policies and
procedures
Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment,
including working with multi-cultural populations and an
understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and
minorities
