Job Description:

The Campus Dean serves as the chief personnel and administrative officer for the Kansas City campus of the College of Medicine, operates collaboratively with the Joplin Campus Dean, and reports directly to the Executive Dean of the COM.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fosters a collaborative, operational, and highly effective relationship with the COM KC department chairs, faculty and staff, Joplin Campus Dean, and KC COM students.
  • Ensures effective delivery of curriculum through cross-campus collaboration by holding Chairs and academic teams accountable.
  • Facilitates operations that support the University’s mission and meets accreditation standards.
  • Contributes to the leadership required for the design, implementation and achievement of the campus, program, and University-wide initiatives.
  • Ensures policies and regulations adopted by the Board of Trustees, the Office of the President, the Executive Dean of the COM, and the Faculty Senate are enforced on the campus.
  • Maintains current, appropriate, and accurate policies and procedures; articulates policies and procedures to COM department chairs, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Oversees management of academic, personnel, financial, and administrative matters of the COM on the KC campus.
  • Works collaboratively with leaders of multiple departments across the COM and other University programs.
  • Initiates discussions of partnership opportunities among various health system, hospital, and other medical science entities as well as educational institutions in the geographic area.
  • Ensures effective communication of the campus and intercampus occurrences to students to maintain transparency.
  • Work with fellow University leaders and the Office of Institutional Advancement to present the University’s case to potential donors for major financial support.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to support a culture of research and innovation in alignment with University and program mission and vision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the COM and University.
  • Commitment to meeting diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives of the COM and university through recruitment of faculty, staff, students, and program development.

Qualifications:

  • D.O. degree from a COCA accredited COM. Residency training, AOA board certification.
  • Current medical license.
  • More than 7 years of experience in academia, educating medical and other health/science related students, and working with faculty.
  • Leadership experience as an administrator at an AOA–COCA accredited College of Osteopathic Medicine.
  • Demonstrated leadership and proven record of administering successful programs and collaborative programs in the community and with other medical schools.
  • A strong record of scholarly or professional achievement; published medical research experience is preferred.
  • Proven record of establishing positive relationships in the community and with other higher education professionals.
  • Experience in the field of philanthropy and community relations.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, vision, high integrity team orientation, fostering open working environment.
  • Ability to lead and inspire faculty and staff to optimal levels of productivity, while maintaining deadlines and positive relations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and performance management skills.
  • Experience with and ability to effectively lead and work with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and external groups.
  • Commitment to excellence on both a personal and professional level, with the highest level of personal integrity and ethical standards, known for compassion, fairness and objectivity.
  • Proactive, innovative, creative and visionary, with an ability to “think outside the box” and constructively embrace and lead change initiatives.
  • Collegial, inclusive, and personally committed to ensuring diversity, with the ability to bring out the best in others and develop a spirit of collaboration within and among stakeholders.
