Position Summary:
Job SummarySusquehanna University is hiring summer seasonal employees to assist with projects for our summer maintenance program. Projects will include painting student rooms, exterior handrails, fire hydrants, bollards, and signpost; or performs a variety of landscaping and manual labor related to weeding, mulching, trimming, push mowing, special event set up, furniture moves and trash removal.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Daily contact with supervisor to receive instructions and with other facilities management staff. Occasional contact with university faculty, staff, and students to promote goodwill and cooperation.
  • Follow instructions on daily work orders.
  • Seed, mow grass; trim and edge lawns; gather and bag leaves; prune, weed, plant, mulch, water, and maintain all landscape materials.
  • Be able to work both independently as well as on small teams to complete landscaping projects as directed.
  • Work in extreme temperature and weather conditions on an extended basis as necessary.
  • Assist in cleaning and repairing damages caused by wind, rain, and ice storms, including emergency situations. Collect bagged waste and discarded items at building sites and deliver to collection area. Remove debris from campus grounds on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist and support the other trades as needed with duties including delivering/moving mail, furniture, equipment, supplies, and construction materials; perform set-ups for various University departments.
  • Maintain complete familiarity with safety rules and procedures in the performance of assigned duties. Request additional training as needed.
  • Maintain complete familiarity with operation and basic maintenance of job-related equipment and supplies. Request additional training as needed.
  • Understand and follow all safety rules.
  • Position will require frequent use of equipment and hand tools such as ladders, push mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, sprayers, and various hand tools. Must be capable of operating golf carts, gators, and other university vehicles.
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and environmentally sound workplace demonstrated by following good housekeeping practices, notifying supervisors of potential hazards, adhering to OSHA standards and other safe practice procedures, and being an example for other staff regarding safe equipment use.
  • Contributes to the overall success of facilities management and the university by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed.

    Required Qualifications:
    Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesPossess basic knowledge and skills with common landscaping tasks and light maintenance experience. Must have the ability to multi-task and use a variety of hand and power tools.

    ExperienceFamiliarity with common landscaping tasks and light maintenance/painting experience.
    Additional RequirementsMust be 16 or older. Individuals under 18 must produce documentation of their working permit. Physical Demand
    Frequently uses various machinery as well as hand and power tools associated with the electrical trade, and working at heights from ladders, and high lift equipment. Will frequently lift heavy weights, work in all weather conditions.
