Summary

Massey Cancer Center is seeking qualified applicants for a Tobacco Treatment Specialist ("TTS") to be part of a multidisciplinary smoking cessation program within the Massey Cancer Service Line. The TTS will work with PharmD and the Cancer Survivorship Program to reduce the negative impacts of the physical and psychological dependence of tobacco use in cancer patients. The TTS will be responsible for the counseling arm of the multidisciplinary smoking cessation program by providing both individual and group smoking cessation services for cancer patients cared for at VCU. Although no prior research experience is required, it is expected that the TTS will participate in any research activities pertaining to tobacco cessation as well as engage in any community outreach efforts relating to smoking cessation. The TTS will be expected to keep a registry of all patients seen within the smoking cessation program.

Typical Education and Experience

• A minimum of a master’s degree in social work from a United States college or university accredited by a nationally recognized regional accrediting body OR employment, bachelor's degree and applicable clinical licensure required by the State of Virginia: e.g. a clinical psychologist, registered nurse, occupational therapist,physical therapist,master certified health education specialist,or registered PA, with current, active and unrestricted license, certification or registration.

• Certification: TTTS eligible within 3 months of employment and applicable clinical licensure required by the State of Virginia: a clinical psychologist, registered nurse, occupational therapist, physical therapist, master certified health education specialist, or registered PA, with current, active and unrestricted license, certification or registration OR a minimum of a master’s degree in social work from a United States college or university accredited by a nationally recognized regional accrediting body

• Minimum of 1 year experience required in counseling, substance addictions, and/or behavior change intervention in a health care setting.

• Minimum 6 month abstinence from smoking/tobacco use (if previous smoker/tobacco user) and remain tobacco free for duration of employment in this role.

• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, Nursing or other human services field or
  Registered Nurse or Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training or Tobacco Treatment Specialist Certification

• 2 years preferred experience on counseling substance additions, and or behavior change intervention in a health setting

Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000
