Ball State University Libraries include Bracken Library and branch libraries in the Architecture Building, Foundational Sciences Building and Health Professions Building. The Libraries employ 47 professionals and 63 staff employees. Position Function

Perform activities related to developing and sustaining University Libraries’ resource collections to meet user needs, including material selection, deselection, preservation, evaluation and assessment; coordinate collection maintenance activities and replacement and gift operations; serve as collection development liaison for assigned departments; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries.

Minimum Education

MLS / MLIS / MIS degree from an ALA accredited program at time of appointment.

Minimum Experience

Experience in library acquisitions, collection development and management, or other related area.

Minimum Other

Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently and within a team environment; ability to plan, coordinate, and manage projects; working knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Additional advanced degrees.

Preferred Experience

Professional experience with collections development or acquisitions in an academic library; experience with library automated systems, such as OCLC, GOBI, Alma; familiarity with publishers and trends in publishing, both print and electronic; demonstrated analytical abilities including use of qualitative/quantitative data analysis and proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with project development and management.

Preferred Other

An awareness of current issues and trends in librarianship and potential for scholarly and professional achievement.

Job Duty

Select materials in best format through approval plans, reviews, publishers’ catalogs, and bibliographies and serve as liaison with specified departments on matters of collection development.

Review specific subject collections for purposes of deselection, preservation/conservation and assessment of their adequacy to support university curricular and research needs; prepare collection evaluations regarding the collections’ strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for improvement, utilizing metrics and other evaluation criteria to support data-informed decisions.

Select gift materials and coordinate gift operations and donor relations.
