POSITION SUMMARY

Arkansas State University-Newport, a comprehensive two-year community college within the Arkansas State University System, is seeking a Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA).  As the College’s chief academic officer (CAO), the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs reports to the Chancellor, serves as a member of the College’s executive leadership team, and has the primary responsibility for the promotion of academic excellence in the faculty and academic programs of the College. Departments supervised by this position include General Education, Applied Sciences, Nursing and Allied Health, Adult Education, Library and Academic Support Services, Non-Credit Instruction and HLC Accreditation.

A successful candidate will demonstrate experience in and commitment to the comprehensive community college mission; student success; program development, support, and review; program and institutional accreditation; faculty and staff support and development; assessment of student learning; co-curricular assessment; enrollment management; continuous quality improvement; innovation; technology; and the use of data for decision making.  In addition, ASU-Newport seeks a VCAA/CAO who possesses proven experience in and commitment to communication, transparency, and collaboration within and among all areas of supervision and among all divisions and senior leadership of the College.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Professional degree (J.D., Ph.D., etc.), plus 5 years related experience and/or training, and 5 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution 
  • Five years of progressive management experience in academics
  • Five years of college level teaching experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership
  • Experience in assessment and accreditation processes
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated comfort with change, innovation, and technology
  • Demonstrated commitment to the comprehensive community college mission
  • Experience in a leadership position at a multi-campus, comprehensive community college is preferred.
