Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $49,000 – $51,000. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, training, and qualifications.

Position Summary

The College of Business at Metropolitan State University of Denver ( MSU Denver) is seeking a Recruitment and Retention Specialist to represent the College on campus and in the community. Reporting to the Assistant Dean, the Recruitment and Retention Specialist is responsible for recruitment and retention efforts that lead to student completion. The duties and responsibilities of this position include: initiating and participating in outreach activities on campus and at area community colleges, high schools, and in local communities; working with advisors, faculty, and administration in student retention and completion efforts, helping advise existing students across the College. This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to relate well to a broad range of stakeholders.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Duties/Responsibilities

Student Recruitment Efforts (65%)
  • Attend and represent the College of Business at events on and off campus, such as: campus fairs, community college and high school events, and interscholastic competitions (e.g., FBLA, DECA )
  • Develop and host events on and off campus for potential students and their parents, high school and community college faculty and advisors, and other individuals and groups as appropriate to promote and engage the community with the College
  • Help develop, maintain, and improve informational and promotional materials, including print fliers, letters, web content, and social media
  • Build relationships with faculty, advisors, and other personnel at high schools and community colleges
  • Liaise with College of Business and MSU Denver personnel to identify opportunities to partner on recruitment, outreach, and promotion activities

Student Retention and Completion Strategies (30%)
  • Utilize advising based systems and communication with faculty (especially for introductory courses) to identify students who are at-risk of not returning to the university or who are not reaching program-specific milestones
  • Collaborate with advisors, faculty, and other staff to identify, implement, and assess retention strategies for the College
  • Participate in University-wide efforts to foster student success, including new student orientations and registration events
  • Supplement and assist with College of Business undergraduate advising serving as a back-up advisor during registration periods

Professional Development and other duties assigned (5%)

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Evidence of effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs, specifically Excel and Word
  • Reliable transportation around the Denver Metro area, including to locations that may not be well-served by transit

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Personnel, or Counseling
  • Experience as an academic recruiter, academic advisor, or academic navigator
  • Experience using computer-based student information system(s) (e.g. Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, CampusVue, Student Success Collaborative, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Colorado and Denver Metro secondary and post-secondary environment
  • Experience with digital media, including social media, in a professional context
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience working with and/or being sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population
Work Hours

Monday – Friday, primarily 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with some flexibility for recruiting events/activities.

Due to the nature of the work, this position requires flexibility for on campus, in person, and on site visits to high schools, community colleges, and other recruiting event venues.
