Job Description
The Graduate Assistant will work
directly with the Director of Student Engagement & Community
Programs to host programs, leadership development and initiatives
that enhance the student experience and align with the Notre Dame
of Maryland University mission. The Graduate Assistant is expected
to be student-centered, administratively sound, task-oriented, have
the ability to problem solve, build relationships and work
autonomously as well as with a team.
Major responsibilities include
creating an environment consistent with the University's Catholic
identity and commitment to the education of women fostering
holistic growth and development of students, promoting community
development, advising selected student organizations, providing
support for educational and retention-driven programs, and
assisting all student organizations with various programming
initiatives including evening and late-night programming.
Essential Functions
Assist with programs such as Welcome
Week, Orientation, Spirit Week, Leadership Summit, Student Leader
Selection, etc.
Develop additional programming for
non-traditional students, including graduate students and
non-residential populations.
Assist with tracking and assessing
student and community programs.
Work closely with other campus
offices within Student Life and Academic Affairs to enhance student
programs and initiatives.
Be an active member of the Division
of Student Life and university by participating in annual retreats,
meetings and other events.
Assist with supervision of student
assistants in the office including Engagement Coordinators, Campus
Activities Board, Student Government, clubs and federal work
study.
Advocate, understand and respond to
challenges of today's student population.
Serves as a resource to faculty,
staff and students on matters relating to program policies,
procedures and activities.
Enhance professional knowledge and
skills by attending training sessions, workshops/seminars and
reviewing published literature.
Create advertisements and manage all
social media accounts for Student Engagement.
Any other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required and one to
two years student leadership and campus life experience at
undergraduate level.
Currently enrolled in a graduate
studies program at Notre Dame of Maryland.
Understanding of student development
theory and translating theory to practice.
Candidates should understand best
practices in communications and promote a vibrant, inclusive campus
environment in their daily actions.
This position requires administrative
skills, supervisory skills, counseling skills, the ability to
effectively manage crisis, and the ability to work effectively with
students, families, staff and faculty. Excellent oral and written
communication skills are required.
Additional
Information:
This is a part-time (20 hr/week),
12-month live-on position with evening and weekend
responsibilities. Additionally, the candidate will serve on the
on-call duty team rotation.
