The School of Social Work invites applications for a Field Liaison to begin Fall semester of 2022. We seek broadly trained social workers with experience in social work field education and strong teaching and administrative capabilities. Successful applicants will be prepared to offer administrative, educational, and supportive guidance to MSW students in practicum placements in Montana, the Rocky Mountain West, and other regions of the United States. Field Liaisons aid the Field Education Program with building and maintaining relationships with community and state organizations serving as field education sites. Field Liaisons teach master’s-level field seminar courses and provide professional advisement and ongoing support to their seminar students and agency field instructors. UMSSW field liaisons are expected to promote social, racial, and economic justice and equity among diverse populations through teaching and curriculum, outreach and community partnerships, and leadership practices.

The Field Liaison is responsible for:
  • Ongoing supervision and support of online MSW students throughout all stages of the field education process
  • Assisting students in integrating theory with practice
  • Assisting practicum students and field agencies in meeting the learning standards and educational requirements of the practicum experience
  • Coordinating with students and agency field instructors in training students on site
  • Building and maintaining collaborative relationships with field agencies across the United States
  • Coordinating and facilitating regular virtual site visits with practicum students and agency field instructors
  • Providing supplemental MSW supervision to online and in-person MSW practicum students in individual or group format
  • Evaluating field agencies
  • Assisting with the facilitation of virtual and in person field education events
  • Ensuring field education protocols are met
  • Coordinating with other UMSSW faculty members and academic advisors as needed
  • Serving on UMSSW committees as needed (i.e. Field Education Committee, Online MSW Committee, Admission Committee, etc.)
  • Teaching assigned number of asynchronous (and in-person as needed) MSW foundation and advanced concentration seminar courses as assigned by Director of Field Education, Department Chair, and College of Health Dean

Position Details
  • Position is, 0.8 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program
  • Hours may vary for the summer months
  • Salary for this position is $43,680 - $52,000 (at 1.0 FTE) per year commensurate with qualifications
Minimum Requirements
  • MSW degree
  • At least three (3) years post-master's level practice experience
  • Possess a thorough ability to communicate with a wide variety of people in a precise and professional manner, both orally, electronically, and through written word
  • Ability to supervise both undergraduate and graduate social work students
  • Practice with diverse individuals, groups and/or communities
  • Ability to teach BSW and MSW courses online utilizing university software
  • Commitment to quality teaching and promoting an inclusive educational environment that affirms the value of diversity
  • Possesses exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with social work field education and understanding of social work practicum process
  • Prior experience supervising undergraduate and graduate level practicum students, ideally in both agency and academic setting
  • Prior experience teaching courses at the undergraduate or graduate levels – both in person and/or online;
  • Practice with Indigenous communities
  • Understanding competency-based education and training including working knowledge of Council on Social Work Education 2015 Educational Policies and Accreditation Standards
  • Prior experience serving as or working with social work practicum supervisors
  • Active licensure as a clinical social worker
