The Asian University for Women (AUW) located in Chittagong, Bangladesh is an independent international institution of higher learning for women from across Asia, currently looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Psychologist.

The aim of the AUW Campus Psychologist is to promote the mental health and wellbeing of the campus community.  This is accomplished through programming, group counseling, and one on one counseling. The Campus Psychologist works closely with Student Affairs staff and the Health and Wellness Center staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and advise on all matters related to mental health of students, staff, and faculty
  • Work collaboratively with the Health and Wellness Center team
  • Teach one course a semester in psychology in the undergraduate curriculum. Total teaching commitment will be 2 courses per academic year
  • Consult and advise nurses on cases related to psychological case management, medication, and patient care issues relevant to clients
  • Present information at regular meetings for Student Affairs and/or Health and Wellness Center
  • Advise the Health and Wellness Center nurses for psychosocial management of admitted patients
  • Provide client care – assessment, diagnosis, treatment/interventions, treatment plans
  • Supervise the management and follow-up of all cases
  • Make referrals, and investigations when appropriate
  • Discuss preventative and preparative measures for likely illness, conditions and situations of risk in the community
  • Contribute to institutional development, and health education initiatives such as workshops and seminars, in collaboration with the health care  team and AUW administration
  • Where necessary, develop psychological service protocol, policies, and practices for on-going services as well as for emergency response
  • Advise departments on issues related to psychological health and emotional well-being
  • Contribute to health education initiatives and the mentoring of student health assistants and volunteers
  • Develop and maintain professional system of confidential record keeping and reporting
  • Attend to emergencies when required for psychological intervention
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Willingness to work odd and possibly long hours

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Master’s Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology or another area in psychology with counseling training and experience. Any other relevant therapeutic Master’s program may also be considered.
  • Experience providing Psychotherapy to young adults and other psychotherapeutic approaches such as psychodrama, playback theater, etc.
  • Experience working within a multicultural environment
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to professional practices to best fit the need of a multicultural campus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to represent the University in a professional manner
