Research Data Analyst - COPD PMCOE

We are seeking a Research Data Analyst who will help conduct analysis of data for the benefit of multiple studies linked to the COPD Precision Medicine Centers of Excellence (PMCOE). This individual will be involved in using big data (both from electronic health records and from wearable devices) to predict health outcomes and adverse health events. They will support custom analysis, prepare reports from preliminary analysis for publications and presentations with the PMCOE principal investigators and other study team members. The Research Data Analyst will oversee data management activities; including completion of data collection, entry, error reports, transferring, and editing raw datasets if were necessary, keeping a good tracking of any change.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

    Coordinate, construct, and clean datasets that provide insight into open COPD-related research questions. Use the Precision Medicine Analytics Platform (PMAP) to acquire data and be a quality control specialist for data integrity. Design strategies, procedures and code books to maintain an ever-growing repository of high quality research data that integrates both clinical data and longitudinal data on functional status. Analyze data and disseminate analytic findings; perform statistical calculations and author sections of reports and grant proposals under the mentorship of senior investigators. Craft tables and graphs in publication-quality form, scientific abstracts, and methods sections of manuscripts. Provide research design leadership to study investigators and consultants; assist in the development of questionnaires by making recommendations on data collection procedures and database structures. Filter and “clean” data, and review computer reports, priontouts, and indicators to locate and correct code problems. Oversees & performs constructions of datasets, variables & data cleaning. Serves as a quality control checkpoint person for data collected and analyses (conducted by self or by others). Provide preliminary & interim analyses of data; additional, perform statistical calculations & under the guidance of a Data Core and to assist with preparation of reports, scientific abstracts & method section of manuscripts related to projects. Performs analyses on large, complex datasets, & documents analyses using Python, STATA or R. Prepare data & analyses reports regarding the status of the database & analytical activites as well as reviews reports to verify data. Present & disseminate information & data analyses. Help to write statistical sections of study reports. Attend weekly scientific meetings. Mentor and advise students and research staff on data analysis, analysis strategies, use of PMAP, and the research database Provide training, assistance, advices to students & research staff on data analysis, analysis technics, the use of the analysis system & large, complex database. Provide computing & analysis support to faculty, & graduate students. Provide PC support or assist with software purchases. Served as the intermediate contact between faculty, staff, and IT personnel. Serve as a liaison between the COPD research team and the broader JHU precision medicine ecosystem. Participate in writing statictical plans for grants & of papers for publication under the supervision of the Data Core. Performs multiple tasks & other functions outside the scope of this position.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Public Health, or closely related discipline (i.e., statistics, computer science, machine learning), and a minimum of three years of experience with data analysis.

OR

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, with a specialization in Biostatistics, Health Economics, or Epidemiology, or other closely related field and a minimum of one year of experience with data analysis.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Knowledge of R, STATA. MS Access, Excel, Word. Experience in statistical analysis, database management & data analysis including longitudinal analysis.


Physical Requirements:

    Sitting in a normal seated position in office setting. Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time. Lifting and/or assisting patients during evaluations within crowded clinical environment. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range. Ability to move about.
