The Executive Director of Intercultural Integration/Chief Diversity Officer (EDII/CDO) Coordinates the integration of cultural and ethnic diversity across the University’s working and learning environments.  As Chief Diversity Officer the position has access to the president and sits on the President’s Council.  As Executive Director the position reports directly to the Vice President of Student Life (see org. chart).  This is a re-envisioned position which facilitates collaboration across campus through the University Diversity Committee (UDM), the President’s Council, Academic Support Center, Office of Spiritual Formation, and the Human Resource Office.

 The Office serves as a resource and advisor to student life, professional development for faculty and staff, curricular integration, program and resource development, and the programing and events at the Culture and Arts Center.  The EDII/CDO is responsible for strengthening partnerships with cultural organizations in the region and assisting faculty, staff and students with community engagement.

Service

  • Champions the two integrative functions of cultural diversity and community partnerships on all five university campuses. 
  • Provides innovative and strategic thought leadership with multiple dimensions and perspectives of diversity as key elements of excellence in Christian higher education.
  • Develops, deploys and monitors strategies that support and sustain cultural diversity. 
  • Supports the formation, training, and orientation of faculty, administrative, and staff search committees to promote just, equitable, and diverse search committee membership and practices.
  • Facilitates collaborations with racial and ethnic cultural organizations.
  • Works with the Seminary, Office of Spiritual Formation, and Church community to enhance Spiritual formation through cultural engagement opportunities for faculty, staff, and students at all campuses.
  • Assists with the strategic direction and plans of the University Diversity Committee (UDC) in program development and training in cultural competence.
  • Works with the Provost, Deans and faculty on cultural curricular inclusion.
  • Provides leadership and retention activities through the University Intercultural Center. 
  • Works to promote diversity in the programming in the  new Culture and Arts Center.
  • Secures grants to broaden programs in cultural diversity.
  • Serves on President’s Council

 

Required

  • Demonstrated personal Christian faith and commitment to the Christian mission of the University
  • Master’s Degree required; Doctorate preferred.
  • Working knowledge of how campus climate research can be used in the development and advancement of a campus diversity plan.
  • Experience and knowledgeable in Cultural Diversity and Equity issues from a biblical perspective.
  • Understanding of and strong commitment to the Confession of Faith, the Fresno Pacific Idea, and the Diversity Rationale.
  • Ability to express clearly and convincingly in spoken and written form the theology, theory, and practice of multifaceted diversity in a healthy Christ-centered community, and the evidence of the educational and spiritual benefits that accrue to students through the experience of such diversity.
  • Working knowledge of how various forms of institutional data can be used to benchmark, assess, and promote accountability in the diversity of FPU.
  • Reputation for cultivating healthy interpersonal relationships and building trust, including when there are significant disagreements.
  • Working knowledge of the various laws, regulations and policies related to equity and diversity.
  • Successful experience in designing or delivering professional development for faculty and staff.
  • Understanding of the culture of higher education including governance, university-wide strategic planning, multiple and competing goals, the nature of campus politics and the needs of different constituencies.
