Lecturer (Human Pathophysiology/Pathobiology), Department of Health Sciences - UCF

The Department of Health Sciences in the College of Health Professions and Sciences at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 9-month, non-tenure earning lecturer position. The expected start date is Fall 2022/Spring 2023.

 

Candidates with expertise in human pathophysiology/pathobiology are encouraged to apply.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• teach undergraduate courses;
• demonstrate high quality course delivery and student learning and engagement;
• mentor students;
• participate in internal and external professional service activities that contribute to the advancement of the department; and
• demonstrate collegiality in all aspects of faculty engagement.

 

Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to provide students with sound career and professional guidance.

 

The teaching load for this position is four classes each fall and spring semester. Opportunities exist to mentor student thesis research.

 

The Department of Health Sciences is the second largest department at UCF with ~3900 undergraduate students in the major and about 400 students in the minor. Strategic emphasis within the Department of Health Sciences includes pathophysiology and epidemiology of chronic diseases; pharmacological and nutrition management of disease; clinical/behavioral health research; and health promotion. The Department of Health Sciences is housed within the College of Health Professions and Sciences at UCF. The college is a core member of the relatively new UCF Academic Health Sciences Center (AHSC) along with the existing Colleges of Nursing and Medicine. CHPS hosts four academic units, the Department of Health Sciences, the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the School of Kinesiology & Physical Therapy, and the School of Social Work.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in pathophysiology, pathobiology, physiology, biomedical sciences, or a closely related discipline from an accredited academic institution of higher education; and evidence of teaching experience related to human pathophysiology.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• at least two years full-time teaching experience in an academic program at an institution of higher education as the instructor of record for human pathophysiology/pathobiology;
• evidence of effectiveness of teaching and instructional innovation in a large and diverse academic program within a university setting;
• evidence of a passion for teaching and working with undergraduate students;
• evidence of effective student mentoring among a diverse population of students;
• experience mentoring undergraduate/graduate students.
