Department of Nursing

Open Rank Non-Tenure Track Instructional and Clinical Faculty

Multiple Positions in Various Disciplines

Inequities and health disparities are a major public health threat and demand a concerted, interdisciplinary effort. At the College of Public Health, we dedicate ourselves to public health in all its parameters, from epidemiology to nursing, from social work to rehabilitation sciences. Social justice has always driven our work: This understanding that individual outcomes are intricately tied to the larger systems we inhabit is the foundation of our college. Temple University College of Public Health’s interprofessional culture fosters collaboration both within and outside the College. We value differences among our faculty and believe that we can better serve and understand our Philadelphia community through the diversity of our individual faculty and our disciplines. Join us in our mission to develop progressive, compassionate researchers, practitioners, and clinicians to build a better tomorrow, grounded in creating the environments and health infrastructure that will make us the healthiest nation.

The Position. We seek faculty with expertise in all areas of interest, but particularly welcome clinicians and practitioners with a wide range of populations (children, adolescents, adult-geriatrics, pediatrics, obstetrics, gynecology, leadership, etc.) to build on current areas of strength in the college, including obesity, nutrition, informatics, organ donation, cancer prevention and control, maternal and child health, opioids, mental health and HIV/AIDS. Faculty candidates with experience in teaching interprofessional education courses, hybrid teaching experience, and community engaged teaching focus are highly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications and Interests.  Candidates should have at least 5 years clinical/practice experience, hold RN licensure and appropriate certification or be eligible in Pennsylvania.  We prefer candidates who have earned terminal degrees in nursing and bring at least 3 years teaching experience, including didactic courses in person or online as well as clinical teaching/supervision in hospital and community health settings. Applications from persons experienced in online teaching who are familiar with learning management systems and communication/educational software are particularly welcomed. Candidates will have earned a terminal degree in nursing, and be eligible for the rank of assistant, associate or full professor. COVID-19 vaccinations are required for employment at Temple University unless granted a religious or medical exemption (see www.temple.edu/coronavirus).  We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusivity in collaborative education who can model inclusive and anti-oppressive practices for future generations of nurses.

The Department. The Department of Nursing enrolls over 500 students and offers two accredited programs. Our 8-semester, 4-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, with freshmen admission recognized for its high NCLEX pass rate, clinical affiliations with some of the best health care facilities in the Philadelphia area, and innovative ‘community home’ rotation with a population-based, service-learning focus. Our Doctor of Nursing Practice program includes a post baccalaureate option and two specialty concentrations: Adult Gerontology Primary Care and Family Individual across the Lifespan. A post master’s option prepares graduates for practice leadership roles in a variety of health care settings. Expansion of graduate program offerings is anticipated and will include additional DNP specialties and a master’s direct entry program for non-nursing college graduates.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for education, research, and practice, the CEPH-accredited College of Public Health consists of academic units in the public health disciplines, health professions, and the School of Social Work, enrolling approximately 4,200 students. The College’s research aims to understand the fundamental factors that affect the health and well-being of individuals and populations by examining health problems through foundational research, policy and practice, and the development and dissemination of evidence-based interventions. We focus on social determinants of health and social justice with strengths in cancer, obesity, HIV, substance abuse, mental illness, mobility research, cognition and language, developmental disabilities, organ transplantation and aging. CPH research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, Gates Foundation, and other major private foundations, along with state and federal agencies. The College is home to an Office for Community Engaged Research and Practice, the Center for Obesity Research and Education, and the Collaborative on Community Inclusion. The Office of Clinical Affairs and Interprofessional Education leads our clinical activities, including the COVID-19 RapidVax effort and forward-looking IPE within the College and throughout the university. The college is staffed by a robust complement of seasoned professionals including robust offices of Communications and Marketing, Information Technology, Sponsored Research, and Academic Affairs.

The University. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. The city was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures.
