As an expression of our Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity, Fairfield embraces a liberal humanistic approach to education, encouraging critical thinking, cultivating free and open inquiry, and fostering ethical and religious values.

Job Description:

Fairfield University is a comprehensive Jesuit institution that prepares students for leadership and service in a constantly changing world. Founded in 1942 on North Benson Road in Fairfield, Connecticut, the University has grown from an initial class of 303 undergraduate male students admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences in 1947 into a coeducational university of more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Along the way, the University has awarded more than 45,000 degrees since 1951, and has developed a reputation for educational excellence both regionally and nationally.

Job Description:

The Biology Department at Fairfield University invites applications for a one-year full time visiting assistant professor position beginning Fall 2022. Responsibilities include instruction and assistance with the leadership in our Health Studies minor program. This would include teaching sections of our introductory and capstone courses for Health Studies, as well as other health-related courses offered by the Biology Department. The teaching load would be a 4/4, with a possible course reduction for administrative responsibilities to the Health Studies minor.

Requirements:

Applicants are expected to have completed a MS or Ph.D. in Biology or a health-related field. Applicants must have a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Candidates should have experience teaching courses related to human health, with preference given to those with teaching and/or research experience in biology.

Additional Information:

The department consists of fourteen full-time faculty representing a range of specialties and is housed in a spacious, well-equipped facility in the Bannow Science Center. The biology department has a vibrant culture of undergraduate student-faculty collaboration in research, several departmental events and guest lecturers, and a large student interest in the health sciences. The salary and benefits for the position are highly competitive. The department will soon house the Health Studies minor, the largest undergraduate minor on campus. As such, the new position will work closely with the Chair of Biology to help administer the health studies program.
