ASM FUNDING ADVISOR

Salary:

Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Job Summary:

The Associated Students of Madison (ASM) Funding Advisor works with students and staff across campus to support the student-led and student-driven process of allocating Student Segregated Fees. Primary attention is given to supporting the work of the Student Services Finance Committee (SSFC), the body responsible for segregated fee allocation at UW Madison. This position works closely with ASM student leaders as they interpret state, campus, and internal policies to determine eligibility for receiving segregated fees, and for understanding budget requests that are a part of the General Student Services Fund (GSSF). This position also works to support and encourage student leaders from Registered Student Organizations (RSO) as they navigate ASM's funding options and processes. The Funding Advisor also builds networks of campus colleagues whose work supports RSOs, and who interact with SSFC and ASM. Additional attention is given to the campus units that are funded by Student Segregated Fees and are under the Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs.

Responsibilities:

Provides subject matter expertise in the development and execution of programs within the scope of student learning and development. Organizes the facilitation and development of curriculum design for on-going and new educational initiatives. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
  • 35% Creates and maintains schedules, logistics, and resources for one or multiple student affairs programs, activities, and/or services
  • 15% Organizes student-focused programming and resources to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives
  • 35% Serves as a subject matter expert regarding student affairs to internal and external stakeholders
  • 15% Generates and analyzes reports of curricular and unit outcomes
Tasks:
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the SSFC retreat, GAC retreat and other training sessions
  • Attend SSFC and GAC committee meetings.
  • Work individually with ASM and RSO student leaders to support their learning and leadership development
  • Track GSSF and GAC application and budget materials, problem solve with students on how to submit and review materials
  • Develop and deliver trainings for students and campus partners about ASM funding opportunities
  • Communicate with students around deadlines and expectations for ASM funding
  • Assist GSSF groups with programming and other RSO programming
  • Support assessment for all of ASM, including GSSF groups
  • Assist ASM student leaders in their RSO outreach efforts
  • Assist with other related tasks as assigned by supervisor

* At least two years of professional experience related to student government in higher education or related field
* Ability to work a flexible schedule, attending regularly scheduled evening meetings

* Training skills and the ability to explain complex policies and concepts to diverse audiences
* Demonstrated commitment to working with student leaders from a wide range of backgrounds
* Ability to analyze short and long-term impact decisions and policies
* Experience interpreting and explaining funding policies and procedures
* Ability and desire to help others work through conflict
* Comfortable working in situations with limited structure and a degree of uncertainty
* Organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects at one time
*Experience in designing and implementing assessment projects
*Knowledge of change management and the desire to lead efforts to evaluate, revise and design processes

Additional Information:

The Associated Students of Madison (ASM) housed in the Student Affairs division is the student government at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The student government is constitutionally dedicated "To ensure the greatest participation by students in the immediate governance of and policy development for the institution at all levels...". A Council of 33 elected student representatives sets policy and priorities for the organization. Students participate in a wide range of leadership and volunteer roles to run campaigns and committees as directed by the ASM Council. A committee of 15 students makes all of the allocation decisions for Student Segregated Fees, including funding for student organizations, campus transportation, and ASM's own budgets. A separate student committee makes decisions for over $450,000 of grants to student organizations.

We are located in the Student Activity Center, which occupies the 3rd and 4th floors of 333 East Campus Mall. ASM student's work is supported by 11 professional staff, whose work covers advising, financial processing, and space management. ASM students and staff strive to empower students and to build an inclusive department and campus in all our endeavors.
