FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

 

 

 

The Department of Film & Media Studies at Hunter College of the City University of New York invites applications for full-time appointment at the rank of Lecturer in Emerging Media beginning in fall 2022.  The Lecturer work load is 24 assignable hours per year, which may be up to eight 3-hour courses or a combination of teaching and administrative duties.

The Department of Film & Media Studies has over 600 full-time students majoring in two programs of study at the undergraduate level: one in Film combining film history and theory with such creative areas as screenwriting, directing, cinematography and editing; the other in Media Studies integrating critical media analysis with creative practice using a mix of contemporary expressive forms (including documentary film making, TV production, journalism, digital imaging and animation, physical computing and game programming).  The department also offers a nationally recognized M.F.A. in Integrated Media Arts that seeks to educate multi-disciplinary media professionals who are socially engaged and creatively fluent across contemporary and emerging digital media platforms.  The department faculty promotes advanced scholarship and creative expression, seeks to have a positive impact on the diverse communities we serve, and fosters the success of our students in their academic studies and as innovative writers and artists.

 

Responsibilities: Performs teaching and related faculty functions in area(s) of expertise.

Faculty duties include teaching up to eight courses at undergraduate and/or graduate level per academic year or a combination of teaching and administrative duties.  Additional responsibilities may include course and curriculum development and assessment, advising and mentoring students, faculty committee work.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

 

Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise required, and the ability to teach successfully.

 

Emerging Media is a production concentration under the Media Studies major. A M.F.A. or other terminal degree is preferred in a creative field or Media analysis and theory. We are looking for a technically proficient media maker and teacher who has strong communication skills with which to engage a diverse student body. The applicant should be accomplished in one or more of the following areas: front-end and server-side web production, and/or 3D modeling and animation, 3D virtual environments, and/or game programming and design, and/or 3D printer workflow and physical computing. There will also be opportunities for the candidate to teach graduate courses in the Integrated Media Arts MFA program. An applicant with deep knowledge of contemporary media theory may also teach analytical courses.

COMPENSATION

 

The salary range is from $49521-$89527 - commensurate with experience.
