Summary of Duties:
The Marketing Director is responsible for developing timely, creative, data-driven marketing strategies that reinforce the WSU Murrow College brand and bolster awareness, respect and loyalty among all stakeholders at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication. As the leader of the Murrow College marketing team, this individual collaborates with colleagues within the marketing department, faculty, leadership, NWPB, and colleagues in other departments system wide as needed.

The Marketing Director is responsible for College marketing, advertising, public/community relations, website, social media, events and internal communication. The Marketing Director prioritizes activities that support student, faculty and staff recruitment, enrollment, and retention. This position also plays a significant role in the marketing and planning of the annual Murrow Symposium event. The Marketing Director must have a passion for team building and a strong commitment to creating a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment. Responsibilities also include hiring, training, supervising, evaluating and applying corrective action of employees on the Marketing team. This position is also responsible for developing and administering marketing and campaign budgets.

Required Qualifications:
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and six (6) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Integrated marketing experience, including brand management as it relates to the functions of publications, digital marketing, and advertising.

  • Professional communication skills including public speaking, the ability to write and edit accurate, appealing content, and the ability to speak persuasively about the institution to a variety of constituents including prospective students, current students, donors, alumni, legislators, faculty, staff, and administration.

  • Work experience that demonstrates competency, proficiency, and accuracy using software programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Hootsuite, MailChimp, Canva.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Demonstrated leadership with strategic, policy, and budget planning experience in complex organizations.

  • Demonstrated leadership, management, administrative and supervisory skills to motivate and build staff competencies.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.

  • Relevant work experience in an institution of higher education or a comparable complex organization.

  • Relevant experience working with and marketing to diverse populations.

  • Relevant work experience in event planning.

  • Relevant work experience marketing to and recruiting high school and community college students.

  • Relevant work experience marketing in a fund-raising campaign.

  • Relevant work experience in strategic communication campaign evaluation, data management, and data analysis.

  • Experience with graphic design, including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software.

  • Mastery of AP style.
