The School of Historical, Philosophical & Religious Studies (SHPRS) through its undergraduate certificate program, Political History and Leadership (PHL) at Arizona State University (ASU) invites applications for a Visiting Scholar to organize and lead a national panels (workshops) and subsequent conference(s) on the state of teaching American history in higher education today. Conference(s) will involve leading educators, legislators, and citizens involved in civic and American history education in universities and colleges. This person will edit and direct printing and distribution of this final panel report(s). Preference will be given to a senior scholar with a strong publication record, editorial experience with major academic journal(s), and an established career in higher education. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, fiscal-year (July 1-June 30) appointment with an anticipated start date of January 9, 2023. Renewal is possible on an annual basis contingent on satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and needs of the program.

The successful candidate will be affiliated with the SHPRS undergraduate program in Political History and Leadership. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute a minimum of 10 hours per week to participate in the activities of the program and to contribute to its development to the Program in Political History and Leadership, ASU, and in the wider community. Teaching for this position is not required, but may be available upon request of the scholar and appropriate academic unit.

Required qualification: candidates must have a Ph.D. in history, political science, or a field relevant to this position by time of appointment.

Desired qualifications: Proven ability to organize conferences; editorial experience; and experience in teaching undergraduate courses.
